Welcome Barbara Verikas to the Team

Barbara and her husband of 45 years, Richard, share a love for cruising and have been our clients for several years now. Often, while planning a cruise vacation with us, Barbara would mention how much she wanted to get back to working in the travel industry. She had previously been an agent with Cruises Inc. (a sister company) and also with BJ's Travel Club in Fairfield, CT before they closed.

So, the right time had arrived and she recently completed her new agent training and became an associate agent with Richman, O'Hare & Associates. We know she will be a valuable asset to the franchise and we welcome her to the team.

Client Recommendations

When a client returns home from their cruise, we send a short survey to get their impression of the ship and their recommendations regarding ports of call and excursions they experienced.

Here are a few comments received from March surveys.

Regal Princess

1) They still have some kinks to work out. It was especially apparent in the dining room service. You often had to ask them to refill water glasses and then they would only do the one that had been requested. Food did not come out all at once. It often took way too long to dine.

No stairs to get up and down at midship point---only elevators.

The elevators do not handle the number of people on board during peak times. (name withheld by request)

2) Having traveled on a smaller Princess ship to Alaska, I found I liked the smaller ship a little better, but I really have no complaint about the Regal and would not hesitate to recommend it to my friends. (Merrill Oaks, UT.)

Royal Caribbean Adventure of the Seas

All 4's

The on-board ice show was great.

I liked Curacao because it was very modern and had excellent free wifi. Gloria liked Aruba for the beaches.

The Essential St. Kitts Tour (via RCL)

(Bill and Gloria Rowell, TX)

 ST. Maarten

Interesting island with fascinating history. We booked tour (with two other couples) of the island after we landed and our guide was excellent allowing us time to see the things we were interested in and we traveled in a very nice SUV

See item 2 for San Maarten. I am sure that we are different than others, but with my limited mobility from peripheral neuropathy it did not appeal to us to spend our time on the beach so we were able to find other more interesting activities on shore both in St. Thomas and St. Maarten.

On the private island (Referrring to Princess Cay) we enjoyed a one hour boat tour. (Again from Merrill Oaks)

FYI - Best time to buy air?

Since many of you have to fly to your cruise embark port and then back home, we found some useful information in a a recent article in TravelPulse (one of the trade publications we receive) which may be of interest to many of you.

It has been a long held belief that the best time to purchase air tickets was on a Tuesday. In a recently completed ARC (Airline Reporting Corp) study of air tickets purchased between January 2013 and July 2014 (approx. 130 million tickets), the best prices were actually found on Sunday for both domestic and international flights compared to their 2011 study.

The latest study also shows that the best prices can be found 57 days ahead of departure (just over 8 weeks) which is two weeks further out than the 2011 study which concluded six (6) weeks out was the optimum time to purchase.

To read the actual study click here.

NOTE: Although years back the cruise lines did not offer air at the best pricing or allow you to choose your own schedule, today they all have a program which does give you the opportunity to choose your flights and they do get most of the published fares (with a few exceptions).

We also have access to some "special lower" fares that may be available but only in conjunction with a cruise. Be sure to ask your personal agent when making a new reservation if there is something that works for the particular itinerary you are booking.

....and a little humor to end with

A mechanic was removing a cylinder head from the motor of a Harley motorcycle when he spotted a well-known heart surgeon in his shop.

The surgeon was there, waiting for the service manager to come and take a look at his bike.

The mechanic shouted across the garage, "Hey, Doc, can I ask you a question?"

The surgeon, a bit surprised, walked over to the mechanic working on the motorcycle. The mechanic straightened up, wiped his hands on a rag and asked, "So Doc, look at this engine. I open its heart, take the valves out, fix 'em, put 'em back in, and when I finish, it works just like new. So how come I get such a small salary and you get the really big bucks, when you and I are doing basically the same work?"

The surgeon paused, smiled and leaned over, and whispered to the mechanic...

"Try doing it with the engine running."
