Congrats to Class of 2013

On June 25th, the Class of 2013 and their proud families gathered at Klahanie Park for Collingwood's 2013 Commencement Ceremony. The Class of 2013 is comprised of 107 outstanding young women and men who, to date, have received 584 offers from 136 universities around the world and offers of $2.4 million in scholarships. During the course of the school year, their teams also won Provincial Championships in tennis, field hockey and rugby!

We are delighted to welcome the Class of 2013 to the Alumni Association and look forward to seeing many of our newest alumni at our future events.

Welcome to this year's edition of Bridge.

Our cover story takes you to Sub-Saharan Africa with an alumni family to learn what has brought new meaning and a new mission to their lives. Read about our new "3R's" - three brothers who have the talent to achieve their goal of playing professional hockey - as well as an alum who will be combining hockey with a Harvard education. Meet another of our alumni who went from Collingwood to the Ivy League and then on to Dubai to seek insight into the challenging issues in the Middle East.

We hope that you will enjoy this edition. If you would like to receive a copy, just email us with your address.

DadsLadsGrads2013

On June 15, over 40 dads, lads and 2013 grads attended our annual alumni rugby event. After some fun games at Klahanie Park the dads and lads headed over to Earl's for a social where they caught up with each other and with their former coaches Roger Hatch, Dave Speirs, Ian Kennedy, Scott Rickard and Evan Hall. Attendance for our Cavs Forever field hockey event was light - so light that we had to cancel the game at Ambleside and we just did the social. So it's time to ask our field hockey alumni what they really would like to do . . .  a game and a social? Maybe just a social? We need to hear from you, so we are doing a survey of our field hockey alumni.

If you're a field hockey alum, please take a few minutes to respond to the survey by August 31st. It will help to guide us in planning next year's event, and we hope that by next year attendance for our alumni field hockey event will surpass that of the legendary Dads, Lads & Grads event. Click here to do the survey.

News from Collingwood

Construction - June

It has been a milestone year for Collingwood in moving forward with the construction of our new Senior School campus. The largest building project in our history has been supported by the School's most ambitious capital campaign.

In addition to the new Morven building construction, renovations to the Parents' Wing will begin this summer, so that by September the renovations will be complete, featuring state-of-the-art facilities for Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Robotics.

We wish to thank our alumni families who have already participated in our Building Excellence campaign. We sincerely appreciate the interest and enthusiasm that so many of you have shown for this project and are pleased to share with you this message from alumni parent Brian O'Sullivan, who sits on the Campaign Executive Committee.

Brian O and boysCollingwood has given my sons Brendan (Class of 2011) and Berkley (Class of 2013) extraordinary opportunities to grow and thrive. It has given them the opportunity to make lifelong friends and to become part of a community in which they will always be welcome. I believe giving back is important so when the school asked me to support the campaign both with my time and with a gift, I was happy to do so.

Both my sons will be Collingwood alumni before the new building is complete but what is most important to me is that the school is able to offer future students the same opportunities it gave my children. I want to see Collingwood grow and improve and want to be a part of the legacy we leave for future generations of students, just as my family benefitted from the legacy past Collingwood families left to us.

In coming together to support this project we are not only building a world-class school but setting an example for our children. We are building a stronger community and the school's reputation will continue to grow. This is something which will benefit both present and past Collingwood students.
