 Founders' Day
Founders' Day was celebrated on October 5, 2012 at the Morven campus. The event began with an assembly where founders, guests, faculty and students were introduced to the new Houses by Headmaster Rodger Wright and were captivated by Nick Geer's fascinating account of the school's early years. Deputy Head Bob Corbett then brought everyone up to date on the recent expansion of the Wentworth campus and Headmaster Wright took them on an animated tour of what the new Morven campus will look like.
It was wonderful for all in attendance to see how far Collingwood has come in less than 30 years. More significantly, it was an opportunity for the assembled faculty and students to thank the founders for all they had done to make it possible.
Honouring Collingwood's founders was a key element in the development of the school's new House System. The Houses were named in recognition of six pillars of Collingwood's very foundation that were essential in the development of the School - Founder, Headmaster, Board of Governors, Fundraisers, Parents' Council, and the Foundation. The Houses are:
Groos House - named after the first founder, Laura Groos
Mackenzie House - named after the first Headmaster, David Mackenzie
Geer House - named after the first President of the Board of Governors, Nick Geer
Houssian House - named after the first fundraisers, Joe and Joanna Houssian
Byrd House - named after the first Chair of Parents' Council, Liz Byrd
Senft House - named after the first Chair of the Foundation, Jeannie Senft

Class of 1992 20 Year Reunion
On September 21, over 40 alumni, guests and faculty attended the 20 Year Reunion of the Class of 1992 at The Beach House Restaurant in West Vancouver. They were welcomed by Roger Hatch, Susan Hazell and Shelley Williams of the Advancement Department, along with current faculty Julia Clarke and Jen Hobson and past faculty Val and Stew Morton. It was a wonderful opportunity for alumni to catch up with each other and with Collingwood. Special mention goes to Dr. Emma Lawry for coming all the way from New Zealand for the event! |
Class of 1997 15 Year Reunion
On September 22, the Class of 1997 celebrated its 15 year reunion at the Queen's Cross Pub in North Vancouver. It was such a lively party that we couldn't manage to corral all of them for a group photo but here's a portion of the group! Alumni and their guests were greeted by Roger Hatch, Susan Hazell and Shelley Williams of the Advancement Department, along with current faculty Walentyna Karcz and past faculty Val and Stu Morton. Kudos to the Mortons for attending our double-header Collingwood reunion weekend! Special thanks as well to Stacie Pilot for all her help with organizing the reunion, and to Drs. Riley and Sarah Senft for making the trip out from Winnipeg for the event. |
