Farm Bureau looking for input on Pride of New York vs. Taste of New York
|
Recently Ned Chapman attended Farm Bureau's commodity sum mit in Syracuse, NY. At this meeting, it was announced that the NYS government was considering the replacement of the "Pride of New York" program with a "Taste of New York" program.
See the following attached articles:
While Taste of NY would obviously be of interest to food farmers and restaurants, it simply does not work for the rest of NY's agricultural industries. Taste of NY just wouldn't apply to New York's many garden centers, plant growers, Christmas tree growers, sod farmers, and nursery growers. It also doesn't take into account that the Pride of NY program does work when supported by the government and given funding. Why not have both programs going? Taste of NY would benefit food producers, food retailers, and restaurants while Pride of NY works well for the horticulture industry. Other states already have dual programs that work well together. NJ uses the Jersey Fresh and Jersey Grown programs in conjunction with each other to the mutual benefit of each.
So please contact your county's Farm Bureau rep and let them know that you'd like to keep the Pride of NY program and if the NYS government replaces the Pride of NY program with the Taste of NY program, the government would be ignoring a huge part of agriculture in New York state.
