Greetings!
Wow! It's hard to believe that July is already here. But, it is and with it the beautiful Arizona summer weather.
We are blessed to call the beautiful desert of Cave Creek and the surrounding area our home. With longer days come early hikes and late, brilliant sunsets. During the heat of the day though, let us be your desert refuge - come in and cool down. Enjoy one of our many classes, maybe experience a new class or teacher, browse the lending library for a good read or schedule a relaxing body treatment. Are the kids restless? Bring them in for yoga on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4:30 while you enjoy a fun Vinyasa Flow with Julie. And if a little adventure is what you want, sign-up for SUP (Stand-up paddleboard) Yoga.
Out of town? (Lucky!) Send us a photo of you doing your favorite yoga pose while on vacation. We would love to hear from you, so stay in touch.
Wherever you are, please enjoy a safe 4th of July!
Much love,
Christine

SUP Stand-up Paddleboard Yoga with Rhiannon Ritchey of Latitude 33 Sunday, July 13th 8 - 10am $55

This beginner yoga class will ease students into yoga and paddle boarding. After a brief lesson on the dock, we take a leisurely paddle onto the lake and become familiar with our board. The class is focused on connecting breath with movement while enjoying the tranquility of the water. The mission is to find the joyful freedom of being in nature while connecting to the beauty and stillness within.
Rhiannon Ritchey is a 200-hour certified yoga instructor and has been practicing yoga for over 9 years. Since her first class, she has been drawn to the transformative healing powers yoga has on the body, mind and soul. As a marine biologist and environmental conservationist, Rhiannon has spent many years inspiring others to experience, appreciate and protect the environment. Now she weaves her
love for nature into her yoga teaching, helping students to find a deep connection to nature and their own inner light.

Qigong and Tai Chi Course
with Grandmaster Tao Sifu Franklin Wood
Monday/Wednesday 2:00 - 3:00pm
A Four Month Course Aug. 4th - Nov. 30th
$450 Space is limited
A Chinese discipline originating around 1100 BC, Tai Chi and Qigong is the science of managing Chi, the essential energy within the physical body. Tai Chi refers to the ancient Chinese cosmological concept of the interplay between two opposite yet complementary forces -Yin and Yang. Using both still and moving meditation to increase and regulate Chi circulation, we gain the ability to cultivate calm and peace within, creating a balanced and whole sense of being.
In this introductory course, we explore the inner world of our body's energy, creating a daily discipline that allows us to slow the aging process, harmonize the mind and body and create an overall sense of wellbeing and inner happiness, regardless of external stressors.
Due to the nature and necessary commitment to this art as a discipline and to truly experience the benefits, we offer this course for a minimum of four months. This is a rare opportunity to study under a true Grandmaster.
Open to all who possess the will to access the deeper wealth of energy within.
Franklin Wood, a Taoist priest, has studied Taoism for over 45 years. Since 2000, Franklin has continued to direct the school of Tao Chi in Arizona as well as teaching classes in Tai Chi, Chi-Gung, Shaolin Kung Fu, Meditation, philosophy, grief counseling and life style changes. He is highly respected by the Chinese community in Alaska and Hawaii and was Adjunct Faculty Lecturer on the Eastern Philosophy of Taoism, University of Alaska from 1984 to 1997.
Franklin established the School of Tao Chi in 1978 and taught Medical Chi-Gung and Taoism for 25 years. He has also taught workshops for children with asthma and the benefits of Medical Chi-Gung breathing exercises. He also designed and taught Taoism philosophy to enhance the 12 Step Programs for drug and alcohol abuse and did life coaching. He uses a gentle approach to help people in their transition in death and dying situations, assisting both patients and their families.

 Herbal Stories
by JoAnn Sanchez |
My internal compass seeks water in the summertime. For this round of herbal information sharing I have therefore chosen to make a brief presentation of herbal baths and soaks. Herbs, fresh or dry, can accompany a full body immersion, indoors or outside. They also serve well as foot baths. I particularly enjoy filling a stock tank with water out of doors in the moonlight and pouring a full pot of concentrated herbal tea that I have brewed indoors into it. And then putting myself serenely into the water. AHHH. This or regular evening foot soaks can add a resplendent healing ritual to one's life, particularly when we are seeking reprieve from the daytime heat of the summer sonoran or whenever we feel out of sorts on any level. Our skin absorbs the herbal constituents, we are soothed as we contribute a simple practice into our personal wellness program. The process of making an herbal bath, full body or foot, is easy and relatively quick. Here are some preparation options: - Make a concentrated tea from bulk dry herbals. Strain and add to tub or foot bowl.
- Add bulk dry herbs to a linen or other cloth sack and immerse sack right into bath waters.
- Pick fresh herbs from garden or produce section of food market and add directly to bath to steep by your side.
Here are 2 recipe ideas for the summertime: Cool me down foot soak 4 quarts of water ½ cup fresh or dried rose petals 3 tbsp. fresh or dried lemon balm leaves 2 tbsp fresh or dried peppermint leaf This is a great bath if one is feeling overheated or if you feel a headache coming on; immerse feet into a cooled bath. Summertime Cooling bath 8 quarts water 1 cup fresh or dried peppermint leaves 2 lemons, sliced Make a tea with peppermint, let it cool down, pour into your bath. Add freshly sliced lemons to the bathwater, get in and Cool yourself off. May the waters and the herbs revive you into enjoyment this July. |
