Urgent Need at Downtown Food Mission: Sandwiches & Vols
The St. Vincent de Paul Food Ministries near Manna House has recently been vandalized so badly that they are unable to prepare or serve food. For the near future, their food services will be handled at Manna House. They need assistance to help keep this important work going!
  • Food cannot be prepared, so they need turkey and cheese sandwiches and chips delivered. They are feeding over 200 a day and the current supply will run out by Monday. Deliver to Saint John's and we will take them down there.
  • They also need 1-2 people to pass out lunches from 10-11am on Wednesdays and Fridays at Manna House, 1268 Jefferson Ave. Contact our church office with any questions.
Need: Canned Goods for Our Neighborhood Food Pantry
The supplies at the UDistrict Food Pantry in St. Luke's on Highland are running desperately low. Bring non-perishables, canned goods, peanut butter, and/or tuna fish to Saint John's collection outside the elevator for delivery.

Episcopal Word of the Week
Word of the Week: MANGER
A stone feeding trough in northern Israel
The manger is "well known" as the cute box in every nativity stable. However, Sandra Richter has a different take on the holy baby bassinet. "Lawrence Stager has proposed that the story of Jesus' birth in Bethlehem had nothing to do with a stable down the street.... [Although the innkeeper] has no room for the laboring woman in the house proper, the little family is welcome to stay on the first floor with the animals. Here, hopefully, they would be warm and safe and the innkeeper's wife would be close at hand in case of trouble. The stone feed troughs that typically separated the stalls from the central room probably served as Luke's 'manger'." (Epic of Eden, p. 37).
Stylin'

Girls from Hanley Middle School participate in a special basketball clinic in the Parish Life Center. Each girl received a small box of goodies.

Want your kids or loved ones in Stylin'? Traveled to interesting places?
