Wow! Blockbuster news at IBC last week: Blackmagic Design acquired Ultimatte and Fairlight, Adobe announced significant improvements in editing collaboration and BorisFX announced they acquired GenArts! And that was just the morning of the first day. I have articles below on Blackmagic and BorisFX. Click the Adobe link above to learn more about their announcements.

We'll have more on these announcements this Thursday on The Buzz. In fact, we shifted the focus of the show to concentrate on the latest news from IBC.

It must be the fall weather, because the summer doldrums have passed and I have four new articles for you this week, including: Top Ten Editing Mistakes and an Update on HDR from Technicolor, along with two very cool color correction tips.

Oh!  I continue to get lots of questions on DVDs and other optical media. So, I decided to create a short - 4 question - survey that I need your help with. Whether you create optical media or not, take 30 seconds and answer these four questions. I'm especially interested in what software you are using to create optical discs. This isn't a sales pitch and I'll share the results with you next week.

Here's the link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/XMKDTWS

Webinars are restarting this week - and I've got them planned for the next four weeks. This week is an introduction to creating animated lower-thirds using Motion, then webinars on up-resing video, Premiere, and Final Cut. Click here to learn more and register. Remember, our live Wednesday Webinars are always free. I look forward to seeing you there.

Fall is my favorite time of year - its a great time to get re-energized and focused.  I'll have more cool stuff to share with you next week. In the meantime, edit well.

Next Week: Tips to Make Up-Res Video Look Better
Up-resing is the process of converting lower resolution video into higher resolution. For example, converting SD video into HD, or 720p HD into 1080i HD, or HD into 4K.

While there is no single, perfect way to convert low to high resolution - and nothing you can do will make low-res footage look as good as if it were shot in high-res - there are tips and techniques you can use to make your conversion look as good as it can.

This session explains what you need to know.  Register here
