April 11, 2016

I have three new articles for you this week, including an interesting backgrounder on frame rates. (No, really - it IS interesting!)

Before we get to the articles, I want to talk about the Digital Production Buzz for a minute. Last week's show was quite interesting. We spoke with the new owner of The Buzz - Steven Roth - along with the editor-in-chief of DoddleMe.com - Heath McKnight - plus, a new co-host joined Mike and me - James De Ruvo.  During our discussion, Steven described how he's building an online creative community, why this is important and where The Buzz fits into the Thalo family of websites.

Then, in the last segment of the show, we looked at what The Buzz is doing at NAB. Debbie Price is producing our NAB coverage and she has thirteen live shows planned, starting at 12 PM, Monday, April 18. (For a list of shows, show times and guests, visit www.NABShowBuzz.com.)

As Steven mentioned during his interview, we are spending the month of April thinking about how we want The Buzz to evolve. We have a lot of ideas, but haven't focused them yet.

Because of all these changes, we're going to skip next week's show. This allows us to concentrate on NAB and move forward with our planning process. There is no doubt the show will continue - starting a week from today at NAB. But, this week, we are taking a break and I didn't want you to worry.

Thinking of NAB, if you are attending the show, stop by and say: "Hello!" We are in booth SL-11505 - South Lower Hall, 2/3 the way to the back on the left side. Live shows run at 10, 12, 2 and 4 every day, except Monday when we start at 12. This year, we even have room for an audience!  I look forward to seeing you there.

I'm off to spend my week packing for Las Vegas - so much gear, so little space. Chat with you again next week.

Last week The Buzz changed owners. We are now part of the Thalo family of websites. So, this week, we met the new owners and talked about what we are doing at the 2016 NAB Show. Mike Horton and Larry spoke with: Steven W. Roth, James De Ruvo, Heath McKnight and Debbie Price.
