News. Training. Insight.

WELCOME BACK!

Thanks for all the kind words on our new newsletter format. And, in answer to the hundreds of emails pointing out that the "Dear [Contact name]" didn't work ... you'll notice that it is NOT included in this issue! Sigh... it seemed like such a nice idea.

The sneak preview of our new website - larryjordan.com - went well, but we found a few pesky bugs that we are still working on. Our plan is to permanently switch over to the new site sometime this week. For now, though, both the old and new sites are running in parallel.

To celebrate our new site, we are offering 25% off everything in our new store - and we've added two new subscription levels. More on both of these below.

Our new live video streaming system - that I wrote about last week - really works well. The image quality is excellent and all the bandwidth stuttering seems to be gone. This also means our coverage is now world-wide. (We are still working on an audio delay issue with Skype that we hope to resolve this week. Once we figure out the solution, I'll write it up.)

In fact, we are so pleased with the live stream that our webinars are re-starting this week with one of our most popular subjects: video compression. The live event is free and I'd love to have you join us.  There are more details below.

And did I mention that the NAB Show is coming up?  More on that below, too.

Buzz
Digital Production Buzz
THE BUZZ IS GOING TO THE 2015 NAB SHOW

For the seventh year in a row, the Digital Production Buzz is covering this year's NAB Show.  And, for the first time, thanks to a generous grant from the folks at 1Beyond - we are adding video coverage!

Here's our plan: We are creating twelve hours of programming during NAB! Eleven live shows  and five Evening Special Reports. Original programming, every day and live from the show floor.

Beginning Monday, April 16 at 10:30 AM (Los Vegas time), we are live-streaming three half-hour shows featuring news, announcements and interviews with virtually every major player in our industry. Then, each evening that week, we present an hour-long Special Report featuring all new interviews with some of the hottest new companies at the show.

All shows will be streamed live, as well as posted to YouTube (video), iTunes (audio) and the Digital Production Buzz websites.

Our coverage is SO MASSIVE that we've created a new website to handle it:  NABShowBuzz.com. Visit today to see who we are interviewing and when they will be on. We update this page every day from now till the end of NAB.

There's only one source for in-depth coverage of the NAB show:  NABShowBuzz.com

NOTE: Need a FREE TICKET to get into NAB?  Use LV4883, courtesy of The Buzz.
Last week on the Digital Production Buzz, Greg Boren, product marketing engineer for Marshall Electronics, stopped in to showcase some of their newest, smallest cameras.  During our interview it became clear that Greg is a guy that loves cameras!

If you are looking for high-quality images in a very small size, check out this interview!
  • Watch Greg's interview here
  • Listen to Greg's interview here

Here's where you can find the show:

  • Watch the entire show here
  • Listen to the show here
  • Watch a six-minute summary of the show here
  • Read the text transcript here

And join us live, every Thursday at 6 PM PDT Los Angeles to watch the LIVE EVENT here

New Articles & Videos
This week, I was thinking about cleaning up my system, which got me thinking about how to delete custom generators and custom text styles. It isn't hard, but it isn't obvious, as these two articles explain.

And, as always, I updated our Top 3 lists. (You'll find the Top 3 by scrolling down just a bit.)
Article1FCP X:
Rename or Delete
Custom Generators
TUTORIAL

When you use Motion 5 to create new generators for Final Cut Pro X, they show up automatically in the Generators Browser.

This is great, but what happens if you want to rename or delete them?

This article explains what you need to know.

Article2FCP X:
Remove Saved Custom
Text Styles and Formats
TUTORIAL

Final Cut Pro X allows you to save text styles and formats in the Styles menu.

However, there is no easy way to remove these once you've saved them.

This article explains what you need to know.
