WELCOME BACK!

Larry Jordan SEVEN new articles this week! Whew... more on those in a minute.

This week, I am practicing patience as we continue putting our TV studio together. There are a lot of moving parts in any studio and I had forgotten just how hard it is to get them all moving in the same direction.

We are using our weekly podcast - the Digital Production Buzz - as the guinea pig to figure out what's working and what isn't. Last week was our first attempt to get the entire studio running. Audio, lighting and prompters worked well. Cameras, switching, recording and graphics worked, but need tweaking. But, while our audio stream worked perfectly, the video stream - which allows the outside world to watch what we are doing - failed totally. So, we had a great time "broadcasting" to ourselves.

Our next test is this Thursday's show. My hope is that we'll have everything working and that you will be able to watch it.  Either way, I'll keep you informed. I plan to write a lot about our new studio - what we are doing and how it all works - once we get it all figured out and working right.

We are very close and, one of these days, you'll be able to see the results for yourself.

AN EPIPHANY ON THE ARTS

I had an interesting thought this morning. As we all know, the arts are under attack in our schools and in our culture. They are derided as too expensive, not quantifiable, or too ephemeral for someone to waste their time with.

But, I think, there's a deeper reason. We go to museums, watch movies, or listen to music because we want to see, think or feel something outside of ourselves.

Thought and emotion are two very powerful forces. Forces that are scary to many people. Rather than enable artists to create and guide these forces, it seems easier to repress them and pretend they don't exist.

Foolish.

NEW TRAINING - THE CRAFT OF EDITING

Generic newsletter bullet Our latest title - The Craft of Editing - is getting glowing reviews. (Thanks!)

This brand-new, five-movie, four-hour training is designed for video editors who may understand editing technology, but want to improve their creative  story-telling skills.

And, for the first time ever, I'm including the same footage I used in creating the training.

Watch as I show you how I look at shots, determine the best shot selection and put a story together. I also illustrate concepts like the "Rule of Thirds,"  what it means to "Cross the Axis" and other editing basics.

This five-movie set includes:

Movie 1: Pre-production and production planning
Movie 2: Editing interviews, news and montages
Movie 3: Editing a dramatic scene
Movie 4: Editing music and multicam
Bonus Movie: Editing Overview

Special Price: Only $79!

I am very proud of all my training and this is no exception. I truly hope you enjoy it.
