WELCOME BACK!

Larry Jordan The holidays are rushing upon us, so I have some early presents for you this week: four new articles.

The open house for our new offices went really well last week. About 50 folks showed up and the offices will never again look that clean. For those that couldn't make it, I'm putting together a video tour of our space, which I hope to get finished after the holidays.

Thinking of that, we will be closed Dec. 25 & 26 this coming week. So, if you have a problem, it make take us a bit longer than usual to get back to you.

This year has seen us grow in offices and staff -- our success is due totally to your support and encouragement. So, on behalf of Debbie, Tori, Patrick, Lindsay, Ira, Cirina, Megan, and Brianna, I want to wish you a very happy holiday!

NEW TRAINING - THE CRAFT OF EDITING

Our newest training - "The Craft of Editing" - has been wildly popular.

This brand-new, five-movie, four-hour training is designed for video editors who may understand editing technology, but want help improving their creative or story-telling skills.

Watch over my shoulder as I show you how I edit. I'll explain what I do first and why. How I look at shots and determine the best shot selection. This is more than just an academic exercise, I'm actually editing sequences and explaining the process and philosophy behind my edit.

Movie 1: Pre-production and production planning
Movie 2: Editing interviews, news and montages
Movie 3: Editing a dramatic scene
Movie 4: Editing music and multicam
Bonus Movie: Timing is Everything

PLUS, for the first time ever, I'm including the footage I used in the training so you can follow along with me. Something like fifty clips from seven different filmmakers.

Special Price: Only $49! Help us celebrate our tenth birthday with this new training, along with 12 GB of practice media. Only $49 from now till Dec. 31.

I am very proud of all my training and this is no exception. I truly hope you enjoy it.

This is also the perfect gift to give someone that's starting to learn editing. (um, hint, hint...)

LAST WEEK'S WEBINAR:
ASK LARRY ANYTHING

Generic newsletter bullet My webinars are on hold for the rest of this month to give my staff some time off.

Also, we had a glitch getting last week's webinar edited. It will be posted by Tuesday this week -- however it will be available to subscribers only, and not in our store.

Webinars are coming back starting January 5 with a look at the new features in Adobe Premiere, Audition and Media Encoder.  Registration will open later this week and I'll have more details in next week's newsletter.

FEATURED BUZZ INTERVIEW
:
KIM SNYDER AND MICHAEL CIONI

Buzz newsletter bullet We had an amazing interview on the Digital Production Buzz last week, with the CEO of Panavision, Kim Snyder, and the CEO of Light Iron, Michael Cioni, talking about Panavision's recent acquisition of Light Iron.

Michael is one of the smartest people I know and I think this is one of those changes that will have a far-reaching impact on our industry.

Both Kim and Michael were extremely forth-coming and honest about how they see the market, the challenges for the future, and why this acquisition makes sense for both of them. I also found their thoughts on the survival of small-business post-production to be fascinating.

Even if you aren't directly involved in post, this is an interview you need to listen to because of how they see the future unfolding.

Listen to their interview here.

Listen to the entire show here.

Thanks to the folks at Take1 Transcriptions, you can read, as well as listen to each show. Here is the transcript to this week's show.

FOUR NEW ARTICLES THIS WEEK

Generic newsletter bullet Four new articles this week, starting with a look at Adobe's latest updates. Then, we recently added Media Asset Management software to our office and I discovered that software didn't solve my problems. Finally, there are two new articles on Final Cut Pro X.

And, as always, I've updated our Top 3 lists.  Happy Holidays!

Thoughts on Media Asset Management

OK. Well, maybe our media files are a little, um, disorganized.

So, I invested in a new media asset management system and discovered that software is only a partial solution.
