WELCOME BACK!

Larry Jordan In the States, today is the Labor Day holiday. So, in celebration, I have new articles for Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro X, Motion and Keynote! (including three new videos), plus a collection of articles explaining media management in Final Cut Pro X. LOTS to read while you try to avoid getting work done today.

After I published my newsletter last week, I realized that I should have mentioned that Final Cut Pro X was upgraded last week to version 10.1.3. I wrote a blog about this immediately, then promptly forgot about mentioning it in my newsletter. Oops, sorry. (More on this in a few paragraphs.)

Also, I've had a lot of requests for a less-expensive version of my training. YouTube is free, but it isn't organized or complete. My FCP X: Complete training is extremely well-regarded, but a bit pricey if you are on a budget. So, this week and for a limited time, I'm introducing our "Get Started" bundle. You'll find the details below.

Labor Day marks the official end of summer in our part of the world. But, our summer this year was very busy with new projects that should launch in September. We begin with "Get Started," but we have a lot more to share with you in the coming weeks.  September looks to be really cool.

INTRODUCING:
GET STARTED WITH FINAL CUT PRO X

A frequent request from young editors is for a way to get a basic understanding of editing in Final Cut Pro X, without investing in all our training all at once. This summer we've had a lot of discussions at the office about how to answer this and from those conversations grew "Get Started."

Get Started with Final Cut Pro X is a subset of movies from our FCP X: Complete title specifically chosen to provide an understanding of media management and editing in Final Cut Pro X. This contains 32 movies - more than two hours of training  - all designed to get you up-and-running as quickly as possible.

Even better, this package has an incredibly low price of only $9.99.  If you are looking for an inexpensive way to start learning Final Cut, or deciding if our training is worth watching, this is a great way to start.

I'm excited to offer this bundle and, if you haven't purchased my training yet, urge you to add this to your system.

BIG NOTE! If you already own my FCP X: Complete, or FCP X: Workflow and Editing, training for FCP X 10.1, there is nothing in this training that you don't already have. This package is designed to help new editors get started.

Here's the link.

APPLE UPDATES FINAL CUT PRO, MOTION
AND COMPRESSOR

Last week, Apple updated all three of their video applications.  This was exclusively an update to fix some significant issues, they did not add any new features.

LAST WEEK'S WEBINAR: 3D SPACE IN MOTION 5

Generic newsletter bullet Last week was a fascinating (if I do say so myself) exploration of 3D space in Motion 5.x. It is very, VERY easy to get lost in 3D; especially if it is new to you. So, in this webinar, I show how to create the simple building blocks of 3D which you can then combine to create any number of exciting visual effects.

This webinar has more than twelve specific demos, from simple to fascinatingly complex. Learn how to  easily create stunning effects without becoming a rocket scientist.

THIS WEEK'S WEBINAR:
MULTICAM EDITING IN PREMIERE PRO CC

Generic newsletter bullet This week's webinar looks at multicam editing in Premiere Pro CC. Multicam editing is ideal when you have multiple cameras covering the same event at the same time. Most typically, this includes sports and live performances.

In this week's webinar, I'll show you how to create and modify multicam clips in Premiere then edit them to the Timeline. I'll also illustrate new features in Premiere that make multicam editing even easier.

Register here -- it's FREE!

There's a limit of 100 seats for each webinar. So, sign up before seats are gone. I present this twice: 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM - Los Angeles time.

Anyone can attend the live presentations FREE. Subscribers can watch webinars at any time, as part of their membership!  Become a subscriber today.

SPECIAL FEATURE

In two weeks, I'm presenting a different kind of webinar: one focused on the craft of editing, rather than the technology.

Entitled Editing as Story-telling, I'm expecting this one to sell out. Learn more and register here. I just wanted to give you a heads-up before we share tell the world.

FEATURED BUZZ INTERVIEW

Buzz newsletter bullet This week's featured Buzz interview is with a world-class game designer: Jane Jensen.

Jane is the legendary game designer behind Gabriel Knight and Dying for Daylight. Our conversation covered the process of game design and the growing interest in games from older folks.

Listen to Jane's interview here.

Listen to the entire show here.

Thanks to the folks at Take1 Transcriptions, you can read, as well as listen to each show. Read this week's show transcript here. (You'll also find show transcripts on each Buzz show page.)

A WHOLE FLOCK OF ARTICLES THIS WEEK!

Generic newsletter bullet It's a holiday, so here's some extra reading to keep you cool. Seven articles ... eight, if you include my blog. Here you'll find articles on Final Cut Pro X, Premiere Pro CC, Motion 5, Keynote and a compendium of media management articles on FCP X.

Plus, as always, I've updated our Top 3 lists.

ARTICLE: KEYNOTE
Use Keynote for Video

Keynote is not the first application that comes to mind when you are thinking about video.

But, when it comes to interesting text effects and animation, it is a WHOLE lot easier to use than Motion.

In this tutorial, I show you how to configure a Keynote project for video, add text animations, then export from Keynote with the highest possible image and text quality.

This probably won't be your number one text tool, but it can do some amazing effects amazingly easily.

VIDEO: MOTION 5
Add the Illusion of Depth

This is the first of three videos on 3D space in Motion. And, they will make the most sense if you watch them in order.

In this video tutorial, I show how to add the illusion of depth to a video floating in space. Even better, you can do this without cameras, special lights, or even turning on 3D space.  Cool.

ARTICLE: PREMIERE PRO CC
Move Projects to Final Cut Pro X

This is another in a series of articles on how to move projects from one application to another.

In this detailed tutorial, I show you exactly how to move projects from Premiere Pro CC to Final Cut Pro X.

I explain how it works, what moves and what you'll have problems with. I also show you the utility software you need to convert projects from one application to another.

ARTICLE: FINAL CUT PRO X
Move Projects to Premiere Pro CC

This is the flip side of the preceding article on how to move projects from one application to another.

In this detailed tutorial, I show you exactly how to move projects from Final Cut Pro X to Premiere Pro CC.

I explain how it works, what moves and what you'll have problems with. I also show you the utility software you need to convert projects from one application to another.

VIDEO: MOTION 5
Add a Light in 3D

This is the second of three videos on 3D space in Motion.

Here, in this short video tutorial, I show you how to add, modify and animate a light on a set in Motion; all in 3D.

VIDEO: MOTION 5
Add Soft-Focus Depth-of-Field to a Camera

This is the third of three videos on 3D space in Motion 5.

In this short video tutorial, I illustrate how to add depth-of-field soft-focus to a camera in 3D space in Motion.

This isn't hard to do - yet it borders on the almost-magical!

ARTICLE: FINAL CUT PRO X

What I've done today is collect all my media articles into one single location to make finding the information you need a lot easier.

If you have questions about media in Final Cut, I suspect you'll find all the answers you need right here.
