WELCOME BACK!

Larry Jordan Wow! What a week...

I have some great short notes, three new articles - including one you're gonna love on color correction - some killer Buzz interviews, new training! and - wait for it - an ALL-NEW mouse pad!

Yes!

And, for those of you that like popularity contests, I've updated our Top 3 Lists.

SHORT NOTES

I was talking with the Adobe Audition team about running Audition 3 on a modern Windows system. I was told that "Audition 3 should install and work well on Windows 7 or 8, provided there are current ASIO drivers for his audio device.  While Audition 3 can export sessions to an XML format, which Audition CS6 will import, one of
our partners wrote a batch session conversion tool which is outstanding. It is called SES2SESX, is a Windows application, and should still be
available for download here."

My sister-in-law, Ann Combs, sent me the following link to the Periodic Table of Story-telling. This takes a while to wander through, but the time is well-spent:

THIS WEEK'S FEATURED BUZZ INTERVIEW

Buzz newsletter bullet We had two great interviews on the Digital Production Buzz this week: John Putch and Michael Cioni. (The rest of the show was good, too, by the way.)

John was talking about how to make a successful independent film, while Michael was talking about 4K video and the new Mac Pro.

Both were outstanding and I'm having a hard time choosing between them.

John is a successful TV director who has branched out into independent features, while Michael has supervised the digital intermediates and workflows of more feature films than I can count.

Listen to John Putch here.

Listen to Michael Cioni here.

Listen to the entire show here.

We are now offering complete text transcripts for each Digital Production Buzz episode, courtesy of Take1 Transcription. View the transcript here.

THREE NEW ARTICLES THIS WEEK!

Generic newsletter bullet Three new articles this week, including a new product review, a QuickTime 7 technique and an article on color correction that applies to all versions of Final Cut or Premiere Pro. Some very cool stuff!

And, as always, I've updated our Top 3 lists.  Have a enjoyable week.

ARTICLE: COLOR CORRECTION
Make People Look Normal

Whether you use some version of Final Cut or Premiere - or any other editing software - this article explains what you need to know to fix color problems in your images.

This has long been a part of my seminars and video training, but I've never written it up before. Here's how to use the video scopes in your editing software to fix color problems and make skin tones look right.

If color correction has baffled you, then this article will explain how it all works.

PRODUCT REVIEW:
Final Cut Library Manager

Now that Event Manager X no longer works for Final Cut, I've been looking around for a way to manage my FCP libraries.

I may have found it in new software from Arctic Whiteness called "Final Cut Library Manager."

I put it through its paces and tell you what I found.

ARTICLE: QUICKTIME PLAYER 7 PRO
Merge Separate Media Files

This article was suggested by a comment to another article.

Tom asked how to create a single file containing both a compressed video file and an AC3 surround audio file.

Compressor can't do it. Could anything?

That made me remember an old technique that works perfectly for this using QuickTime Player 7 Pro. Even better, you can use this whenever you need to merge separate audio and video files into one container.

BRAND-NEW TRAINING
Learn Apple Compressor 4.1

With the release of Final Cut Pro X v10.1, Apple also updated Compressor to version 4.1 An all new interface, improved compression settings and better monitoring. So much changed, in fact, that we went back and re-recorded all our training for the new version.
  • Better organized
  • More informative
  • Tighter focus on making your images look great.
These days, everything we do ends up on the web.
Which means that if we don't know how to compress our video to make it look good, all our work during production and post is wasted.

In this in-depth video training, Larry Jordan shows you how to make the most of Apple Compressor 4.1.

Whether you are a new or experienced, this training will help you make your media look and sound great!

We are committed to providing the highest quality training at the lowest possible price and distributing it as widely as possible.

From subscriptions to individual downloads to free techniques and articles -- we've got your back.  And there's lots more to come.
