Greetings!
WELCOME!

Larry Jordan In the States today, we are honoring Veteran's Day. Which gives us an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices of the people in our past who allowed us to get to where we are today.

AN ADOBE CELEBRATION

This week, in celebration of Adobe's release of the 7.1 update to its Creative Cloud software, I have three Adobe articles, a new multicam compendium (which is not a word I get to use very often), plus a webinar on cool new Adobe features!

Plus, the usual suspects of Short Notes, featured interviews, a new compression webinar, and an updated Top 3 list.

SHORT NOTE

John Foster sent me a heads-up about a potential problem with XDCAM clips and the Pro Apps 1.0.3 update which occurred at the end of October. Apparently, there are  conflicts which Sony and Apple are currently discussing. Here's Apple's support announcement: support.apple.com/kb/HT4724

Here's the thread that describes the problem, with a  workaround:

THIS WEEK'S WEBINAR: VIDEO COMPRESSION

Generic newsletter bullet Video compression is one of our top three most popular webinar topics ever. So this week we are offering a compression webinar!

This time, I'm comparing Apple Compressor, Adobe Media Encoder, and Sorenson Squeeze. Tips, tricks and techniques to help you learn how each works.

I'll feature how to transcode media between formats, compression for the web and DVD, and highlight the automated tools that each uses to speed compression.

Subscribers can attend any live webinar for free.  Click here to become a subscriber - or click here to register for this week's Wednesday Webinar.

NEW FEATURES IN PREMIERE PRO CC

There are, approximately, seventeen bajillion new features in the 7.1 update to Premiere Pro; I know, because I hand-counted every one.

So, last week, my webinar presented dozens of them. If you are a Premiere user, check out this webinar - it will get you up-to-date faster than reading the manual. Adobe has put some very cool stuff in this update.

Subscribers, log in here to view the video.
Everyone else, click here to purchase the download.

THIS WEEK'S FEATURED BUZZ INTERVIEW

Buzz newsletter bullet This week, The Buzz was talking audio, with interviews with Jon Tatooles, the founder of Sound Devices, Philip Hodgetts, CEO of Intelligent Assistance, Howard Bowler and Chris Stangroom of HOBO Audio, and Lucas Gilman, an extreme sports photographer.

This week, I am featuring Howard Bowler and Chris Stangroom of HOBO Audio. Listen as they discuss what it's like running an audio post-production facility, what clients expect today, and the techniques they use to clean up less-than-perfect audio.

Listen to Howard and Chris' interview here.

Listen to the entire show here.

We are now offering complete text transcripts for each Digital Production Buzz episodes, courtesy of Take1.tv.  Read the transcript for this show here.

THREE NEW ARTICLES THIS WEEK!

Generic newsletter bullet One of the big new features in the Adobe 7.1 update is improvements to multicam -- or, as Adobe calls it: Multi-camera Sequences.

So, I decided to create three different tutorials on multicam for this week: A written, step-by-step guide to multicam, a brief video tutorial, and a quick Cookbook Checklist for folks that know what multicam is, but just can't remember the steps.

Plus, I've updated my Multicam index. This provides all the details you need to create multicam clips in Final Cut Pro 7 and X, and Adobe Premier Pro CS6 and CC. All the details, all in one place.

And, as always, I've updated our Top 3 lists.  Enjoy!

ARTICLE: ADOBE PREMIERE PRO CC
A Step-by-Step Guide to Creating Multicam Clips

Last week, Adobe updated the multicam feature in Premiere Pro.

So, this week, I wrote a detailed, step-by-step tutorial on how to create, edit, trim, and collapse a multicam clip.

If you are interested in editing multiple cameras at the same time, but can't quite figure out how to do it in Premiere, this article should answer all your questions. Plus, this highlights the new features that were added in this update.

VIDEO: ADOBE PREMIERE PRO CC
A Video Tutorial on Multicam

Or, maybe you are the type that prefers to learn by watching.

So, this video tutorial shows how to create a multicam clip, and highlights the new features in the update.

The Step-by-Step has more details, but this video takes less than seven minutes to watch.

Watch the video here. (This video won't play in Firefox.)

COOKBOOK: ADOBE PREMIERE PRO CC
A Video Cookbook on Multicam

Then, again, maybe you are an old hand at multicam - but just can't quite remember all the steps.

In this "cookbook," I provide the steps to sync, create, edit, trim, and collapse a multicam clip -- without bogging you down with trivial things like details.

If all you want are the facts - that's all you get in this article.

ARTICLE: MULTICAM INDEX
Creating Multicam Clips in Final Cut and Premiere
But!, you say, I am not using Premiere CC. Am I out of luck?

Nope.

In this Multicam Index, I provide step-by-step guides, cookbooks, and video tutorials to create multicam clips in:
  • Final Cut Pro 7 (and 6, and 5)
  • Final Cut Pro X
  • Premiere Pro CS6
  • and Premiere Pro CC
If you can't find it in here, you don't need to edit it.
