WOW! WHAT A WEEK...!
Larry Jordan
New speeches, new software, new webinars, new transcripts; all kinds of news.  It's been a heck of a week, and I've got a ton of stuff to share with you, so let's get started.

LARRY TO KEYNOTE IBC SUPERMEET!

I've been asked to be one of the headline presenters at this year's IBC SuperMeet, next Sunday in Amsterdam. This is very cool, and I'm very excited. The show starts at 5 PM.

My topic is whether "Final Cut Pro X is Ready for Professional Use?" Ask we know, Apple's launch of Final Cut Pro X was somewhat, ah, controversial. But it is now two years later and it's time to take a look at what's changed. During my talk, I'll not only show you several very cool features of Final Cut Pro, but also demonstrate a variety of utilities that take Final Cut farther than you thought possible.

I'm looking forward to presenting all these goodies on the main stage! I'll also be wandering around the SuperMeet before the speech - so be sure to stop me and say Hi!

ADOBE UPGRADES VIDEO SOFTWARE

In the interest of equal time, last night Adobe announced major new versions of all their video software. They updated Premiere, After Effects, Media Encoder, Prelude and MANY more.

The announcement was last night, the demos are this week at IBC, and the release is an as-yet-unannounced date in October.

Read my blog for all the details.

NEW!
VIDEO TRANSCRIPTS FOR THE BUZZ

I am delighted to announce that, in partnership with Take1.tv, we are now offering written transcripts for all on-going Buzz shows. This means that you can search and print a text transcript, as well as listen to the show itself.

Based in London, Take 1 is one of the leading transcription houses in the world. We've been chatting about this with them for a while and we both finally decided the time was right to give this a try.

However, as a creature of habit, I, um, forgot to send them the audio file when the show was over on Thursday night. I got an email from them at dawn Friday asking what happened to the file. Sigh...

With profuse apologies, I immediately sent them an MP3 of the show. 90 minutes later!!! I got a complete, formatted, written transcript of the entire 60 minute show. Holy smokes!  I've been working with transcripts since the early 1990's and I've NEVER seen anything that fast!

It took us about 20 minutes to review and clean up the file and post it. Let me know what you think about this new service!

Read the transcript here.

And, if you are looking for someone to handle your own transcripts, check out Take 1.

FEATURED BUZZ INTERVIEW

Thinking about The Buzz, reminds me of our featured interview this week: Shawn Griffith.

We had great interviews with Peter Hamilton and Tim Clapham, but for a story that just grabs you by the heart and makes you feel good about our industry, the story Shawn tells of his work creating live video programs crewed and directed by hospitalized children as young as eight years old, will start your day off right.

Listen to his interview here.
Listen to the entire show here.

Have a great week - hope to see you next Sunday in Amsterdam!

LARRY'S BLOG
Adobe Announces Major New Software

Logo: Larry's Blog Last night, Adobe announced major updates to all their video software.

Here are the details, including a link to Adobe's press release.

ARTICLE: FINAL CUT PRO X
Enable Multi-Channel Audio

One of the newer features in Final Cut Pro X is the ability to access, enable, disable, or modify multi-channel audio.

This week, I realized that I haven't written about this, so in this article, I explain what it is, why you should consider using it, and, then, I show you how it works.

ARTICLE: QUICKTIME PLAYER 7 PRO
Use QuickTime to Disable Audio Tracks

QuickTime Player 7 may be older technology, but I still use it every day during editing.

In this article, I explain how to use QuickTime Player 7 Pro to enable, disable, delete or extract one or more tracks from inside a QuickTime movie file.

Even if you don't think you need to know this, read this article so you can at least know that it can be done - easily - and without wasting any time.

ARTICLE: FINAL CUT PRO X
Export a Project Region

New with the 10.0.6 Final Cut update is the ability to export just a portion of a project.

In this article, I'll show you how this works, show different ways to select a portion of a project and discuss the limitations of exporting regions.

NEW TRAINING
Learn Apple Compressor 4

Ultimately, all our projects end up on the web. Which means that if we don't know how to compress our video to make it look good, all our work during production and post is wasted.

In this in-depth video training, Larry Jordan shows you how to make the most of Apple Compressor 4.

Whether you are a new or experienced editor, this training will help you make your media look and sound great!
