Greetings!
WHOA! TONS OF STUFF THIS WEEK!
Larry Jordan
I'm sorry for not publishing last week. I was buried in prepping for my first live TV gig - more on that in a minute - and just didn't have any time to write.

We have all kinds of stuff to talk about this week. Apple updated Final Cut Pro X, I'm releasing brand new video training on Compressor AND Adobe Media Encoder AND Adobe Premiere! Along with all that, I have a new webinar for you, articles, videos, featured interviews and contest winners.

Whew!  It's been a very busy week!!

APPLE UPDATES FINAL CUT PRO X

Apple released a bug-fix upgrade to Final Cut Pro X this week - to version 10.0.9.

The release notes said that it fixed green artifacts with Sony XAVC media, added stability improvements and fixed issues related to exporting.

The big news is in the export fixes. I've gotten a lot of email recently about all kinds of export problems, whenever you were exporting anything except a master file.  This dot release actually fixed a wide variety of export problems, though I still continue to recommend exporting a master file to simplify the process of archiving.

If you haven't already upgraded, I recommend you do so.

ANNOUNCING MY ALL-NEW TRAINING
FOR APPLE COMPRESSOR 4

Our most popular training, aside from Final Cut Pro X, is anything dealing with compressing video for the web.

So, this morning, I released comprehensive video training for Apple Compressor 4. 51 movies, more than four hours of training, covering everything from the basics to customizing compression settings and filters, to special tricks you can use to radically improve the speed of video compression.

Purchase the download here for only $49.99.  Or, if you are a subscriber, the videos will be posted to our subscription website later today. Become a subscriber here.

This is some very cool training. There are tricks in here that I haven't published anywhere else, because I discovered them while researching this training.

If the quality of your images is important to you, you need to watch this training.

NEW ADOBE WEBINAR AVAILABLE:
ADOBE MEDIA ENCODER

Thinking of video compression, our latest webinar - Adobe Media Encoder In-Depth - is now available.

If you prefer to use AME, rather than Compressor, we've got you covered in this video training.

(By the way, due to my travel schedule, webinars are taking a break during August and will resume in September.)

NEW VIDEO TRAINING ON
ADOBE PREMIERE PRO CC

The reason I couldn't write a newsletter last week was that I was in Seattle, prepping for three days of live (yup, LIVE) television training viewers of CreativeLIVE on Adobe Premiere Pro CC.

This wasn't my first on-camera stint, but it was BY FAR my longest.  Three seven hour days on camera.  Whew...!

But, boy, did we get a chance to go in-depth on how to make the most of Premiere Pro. Plus, I got a chance to tell several of my favorite stories.

You can watch the training for free via streaming, or purchase the download for only $99.

This was a lot of fun - in a highly-stressful way - and I hope you enjoy watching this. I'm looking forward to presenting more with them in the future.

Click to view either the free or paid versions.

DIGITAL PRODUCTION BUZZ
FEATURED AUDIO INTERVIEW

Each week, I feature a different interview from our podcast: Digital Production Buzz.

This week, I want to highlight Rony Sebok, VP of Technology for 1Beyond.

I've been writing for a long time about our need for low-cost, high-capacity, long-term archiving for media projects. Recently, the folks at 1Beyond contacted me about some low-cost, LTO-tape-based products that they have.  So, I invited Rony on the show to tell us more about them.

Archiving continues to be a critical issue for media producers, and 1Beyond seems to be listening to what we need.

Listen to her interview here.
Listen to the entire show here.

OUR SECOND-LAST CONTEST WINNERS
Our contest: Editing Truths for Better Living ended July 28 -- but, because I didn't publish a newsletter last week, I'm publishing our final winners both this week and next.

Then, that's it. Done. Finished. Um, until the next time we need something to make us laugh.

Here are our winners for this week:

NEW ARTICLES THIS WEEK

Three new goodies this week: two articles and a video. Two on Adobe Premiere Pro and one on Compressor.

Plus, I've updated our Top 3 lists. Enjoy!

ARTICLE: PREMIERE PRO CC OR CS6
Creating Motion Effects and Presets

Premiere has a very small, very powerful icon that makes creating motion effects a lot easier.

Plus, you can also save a created effect using presets.

This article explains how to create basic motion effects, adjust them on-screen, and save the effects you like for reuse later.

VIDEO: ADOBE PREMIERE PRO CC
Send Files to Adobe Media Encoder for Export or Compression

Adobe Media Encoder is at the heart of file export and compression for Premiere Pro, Prelude, After Effects, and Encore.

This video excerpt from a recent webinar, shows how to export a file from Premiere to save it as a master file, or compress it for the web.

ARTICLE: COMPRESSOR 4
Create a Custom Batch Template

This article grew out of my research for my Compressor 4 video training.

Here, I show you how to create a custom batch template, explain why they are useful, and show you how to delete them when you don't need them any longer.

NEW TRAINING
Learn Apple Compressor 4

Ultimately, all our projects end up on the web. Which means that if we don't know how to compress our video to make it look good, all our work during production and post is wasted.

In this in-depth, video training, Larry Jordan shows you how to make the most of Apple Compressor 4.

Whether you are a new or experienced editor, this training will help you make your media look and sound great!
