Greetings!
BVE 2013 WAS GREAT!

Whew... Changing time zones plays hob with deadlines!

I'm back from BVE 2013 in London - but all day Sunday was spent traveling, which is why this newsletter is one day late.

BVE was incredible! I delivered nine different presentations to standing-room only crowds; 100 - 150 people crammed into a space designed for 70. I presented three topics that I haven't done before:
  • Blackmagic Design Cinema Camera
  • Working with 4K Video
  • Best Practices on Tapeless Media
The first of these - BMD Cinema Camera - is posted to my YouTube Channel.  Later today, we will be releasing another of the BVE presentations, with all three posted to YouTube by tomorrow.

Thanks to the great folks at Blackmagic Design for sponsoring my trip.

Here's the link to my YouTube Channel, where you can see all my BVE videos.

(By the way, we will also add my BVE videos to the subscription library by early next week.)

SUBSCRIPTION SERVICE PROBLEMS

By the way, speaking of our subscription video service, we are getting a few reports of playback problems, that started last Friday.

At this point, subscription playback works on all iPads, iPhones, and Android devices. If you are having problems with computer access, give us another day to figure out the problem.

We know what it isn't, but, so far, we haven't figured out what it is. Not everyone is affected, but for those who are, I am truly sorry for the problem.

"EDITING TRUTHS" CONTEST RETURNS

The contest continues and, so far, I have almost 50 entries. Some are truly hysterical.  As soon as I have a spare minute, I'll start picking winners and sharing them here in the newsletter.

In the meantime, if you are on Twitter, we are posting many of these to see which get the greatest reaction.

Here's the deal:  We are looking for thoughts and aphorisms that describe editing in the real world of your life.  20 words - more or less.  Comedy wins extra points.

The contest is FREE, we pick winners every week (or, we WILL, once I can stay put for a few days), and share them with you in this newsletter.  Click here for all the details.

NEW!  FCP X CLASSROOM TRAINING
IN-DEPTH AND IN-PERSON

This is your last chance to sign up for our next two-day Final Cut Pro X hands-on training coming up this weekend: March 9 & 10.

I presented this course to almost 100 people at Ravensbourne College last week in London, to rave reviews. Each time I present this, I refine the class based on audience comments.

If you are looking to work faster, work better, and make the most of this new software, bring all your questions and come join the class, there are still a few seats left.

NEW ARTICLES THIS WEEK

I have two video tutorials this week - one taken from the recent webinar on Motion 5. And the other is a direct link to my BVE presentation on the Blackmagic Cinema Camera at BVE.

I've also updated my Top 3 lists. As always, the details are below.

BVE PRESENTATION:
Blackmagic Design Cinema Camera

Blackmagic Design logo Is the Blackmagic Cinema Camera for you?  Well, maybe yes, and maybe, no.

In this presentation, I explain what the camera is, what it is good for, and what it is not. I also include a short film that was shot by the BMD Camera.

This is the first of three BVE 2013 presentations that we are posting to YouTube.

VIDEO TUTORIAL: MOTION 5
Motion Tracking

This is the third of three short videos on using Motion 5, taken from a recent webinar.

In this short video, I explain what motion tracking is, and show you how to get a piece of text to move in sync with an object in the background.

(By the way, this technique works exactly the same way in Motion 4.)

Watch the video here.
