MEET ME IN LONDON --
AT BROADCAST VIDEO EXPO 2013

I'm writing this from a warm hotel in chilly London, where I'm feverishly prepping for my presentations at BVE 2013 starting Tuesday. (Hmmm.. seven done, two more to go...)

On Tuesday, I'm talking about 4K video, along with Final Cut Pro X. Later in the week is the BMD Cinema Camera, Adobe Audition, Compressor, and tapeless media. For a list of all my talks, click here. Be sure to stop by and say hello.

"EDITING TRUTHS" CONTEST RETURNS

I announced this last week and immediately got buried with entries. Naturally, I flew out to London and forgot to bring these along, so we'll start announcing winners next week.

In the meantime, some of the early entries are available via Twitter.  As I hoped, many of these are hysterical - and the rest are just plain fun.

Here's the deal:  We are looking for thoughts and aphorisms that describe editing in the real world of your life.  20 words - more or less.  Comedy wins extra points.

The contest is FREE, we pick winners every week, and share them with you in this newsletter.  Click here for all the details.

FEATURED BUZZ INTERVIEW

Our featured interview this week looks to the future. Michael Cioni is the CEO of Light Iron, a high-end post house based in LA and NYC..

In this interview, Michael talks about the "post-studio world." He even suggests that the six major studios may no longer be relevant for most filmmakers.

This is a very thought-provoking interview from someone who lives about six months into the future.

NEW ARTICLES THIS WEEK

I have two short video tutorials this week - both taken from last week's webinar on Motion 5. However, the webinar itself is gonna take longer to post than usual because I'm preoccupied with BVE this week. I've also updated my Top 3 lists.

As always, the details are below.

VIDEO TUTORIAL: MOTION 5
Animate Masks in Motion 5

It took me a while to learn to like masks. They sounded very, um, mysterious to me.

But, once I figured these out, they are both easy and fun to work with.

In this video, I show how to animate a mask WITHOUT using keyframes!  (And, if you own Motion 4, you can do the same thing.)

VIDEO TUTORIAL: MOTION 5
Create an Effect in Motion for FCP X

One of the major benefits to learning Motion 5 is that you can create effects in Motion that automatically appear in Final Cut Pro X.

In this short video, I show how to create a gradient background for a lower-third super in Motion that automatically appears in Final Cut Pro X as a generator.
