OUR EDITING TRUTHS CONTEST IS BACK!!

Larry Jordan
We had such fun the last time we ran this contest in 2011, that we are bringing it back.

Here's the deal:  We are looking for thoughts and aphorisms that describe editing in the real world of your life.  20 words - more or less.  Comedy wins extra points.

Need some examples?  How about:
  • It always looks better with music.
  • Client: "I want to make a video. How much will it cost?"
  • If you value your life, never say: "We'll just fix it in post," in front of an editor.
  • Deleting all project files guarantees the client will come back to make changes they are willing to pay for.

The contest is FREE, we pick winners every week, and share them with you in this newsletter.  Click here for all the details.

Why are we doing this? Because, frankly, past entries were hysterical - and we could all use a good laugh.

FEATURED BUZZ INTERVIEW

Our featured interview this week is designed to help you find work. Rob Chipman is the CEO of BizVision, a company that records corporate events around the country. In fact, they record more than 1,000 events each year.

And they are building a network of videographers to help with production.  What's even better, they pay, they pay quickly, and generally pay according to your rate card.

If you are looking for more production work, you need to listen to this interview.

WORKING WITH STILLS

Very few topics  generate questions like integrating stills with video. Last week, I created a webinar specifically devoted to showing how to use stills in Final Cut Pro X.

This covers a lot of fundamental territory that can help you make your stills look better. To learn more, click here.

NOTE: Even if you don't plan to purchase the webinar, please watch the demo. The eight minutes you spend watching will make a difference in your stills. Promise. Watch it here.

NEW ARTICLES THIS WEEK

I have two short new video tutorials this week. I've also updated my Top 3 lists.

As always, the details are below.

VIDEO TUTORIAL: PHOTOSHOP
Animate Stills Using Photoshop Layers

I first discovered this technique several decades ago, but it took a lot of equipment to create.

Recently, this move was featured in a number of Ken Burns documentaries.

In this short video tutorial, you'll learn how to take a still image into Photoshop, separate it into layers, then animate it in Final Cut Pro X.

(By the way, if you use FCP 7, Premiere, or Avid, can still use this technique, because all this software allows the same type of image manipulation.)

VIDEO TUTORIAL: FINAL CUT PRO X
Size Still Images to Look Good in Video

One of the key factors in getting still images to look good is to create them at the correct size.

In this short video, I'll explain what you need to know about image resolution, then provide a table you can use to start sizing your stills correctly.

Watch the video here.
