Greetings!
WHEW! THERE'S A LOT GOING ON...
Larry Jordan

This is supposed to be summer - you know, kick back and take it easy...  Whew.  Someone forgot to send the memo.

Four new articles this week - new goodies on the Digital Production Buzz website - updates to the LarryJordan.biz website - a week of FCP X training in Aspen - and, well, there's so much going on my calendar needs a calendar.

We are already editing the 2 Reel Guys shoot from last week. Our first episode premieres Sept. 15. Visit 2ReelGuys.com for details as we get closer to September.

The Digital Production Buzz website continues to evolve. We have now integrated all the interviews from our NAB 2012 coverage into our Interview Archives. By the end of this week, we will also include all our interviews from DV Expo 2011, GV Expo 2011, and NAB 2011.  We already offer almost 500 individual interviews - all searchable by name, company, and keyword. We are adding more interviews every day this week.

THANKS KANEN!

I was interviewed on That Post Show, hosted by Kanen Flowers and joined by Jason Diamond last week. We talked about the prerelease version of Autodesk Smoke 2013, though, if you've ever listened to the show, you know that Kanen's conversations range, ah, widely...

This is always a fun show - check it out here.

WEBINAR #75 - THIS WEDNESDAY!

Wow... seems hard to believe that our 75th webinar is this Wednesday - Video Compression with Adobe Media Encoder CS6. AME does far more than create Flash movies - in fact, its quality rivals the best compression software that's out there.

The key benefit that Media Encoder provides when compared to Compressor, is that Adobe Media Encoder runs on both Macs and Windows. Still, AME doesn't do everything. See where this best fits in your workflow and where you need to consider alternatives.

Compression and transcoding are at the heart of virtually everything we do. Join us this week and learn how the Adobe Media Encoder can benefit you.

Remember, subscribers can attend any live webinar for free!

NEW ARTICLES THIS WEEK

I have four new articles - along with a free analysis of the media storage market - plus one from the vaults covering Final Cut Pro 7.

Details - as always - are below.

TECHNIQUE: FINAL CUT PRO X
Secrets and Tips

Here's a collection of shortcuts, tips, and undocumented features that will help you get more from Final Cut Pro X.

These are taken from my recent book: Final Cut Pro X: Making the Transition.

Read the details here.

TECHNIQUE: ADOBE PREMIERE PRO CS6
Creating Clip Speed Changes

Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 has a wide variety of ways to create clip speed changes - however, not all of them are intuitive.

In this article, I show you how to create freeze frames, fit-to-fil edits, constant speed changes, and variable speed changes. (And most of these techniques work for Premiere Pro CS5.5 as well.

SURVEY ANALYSIS
Trends in Digital Storage

Media devours storage. So, when you are planning your next project, what storage should you use?

Recently, Tom Coughlin, of Tom Coughlin & Associates, surveyed media producers large and small about how they are using storage, what they expect to use in the future and where the trends are taking us.

Read the survey summary here. PLUS, download a free copy of the 12-page summary as a PDF.

PRODUCT REVIEW: EDL-X FOR FCP X
Create EDLs from FCP X XML Files

EDLs are used everywhere in our industry to move edited projects from one system to another.

The only problem is that Final Cut Pro X doesn't create EDLs - until now.

The folks at XMiL have created a utility for FCP X called "EDL-X." This article gives you a quick tour of the application.

ARCHIVES: FINAL CUT PRO 7
Move Things Using the Keyboard

It's great to be able to drag things around using the mouse.

But it is often far faster to move selected objects using the keyboard.

This article explains what you can move and how you can move it.
