Holy Cow! What a Week!

Apple updates Final Cut Pro X to version 10.0.3 and, suddenly, the floodgates open on 3rd-party plugins.

Intelligent Assistance releases a utility to convert FCP 7 projects to FCP X. AJA and Blackmagic Design release drivers to support broadcast video monitoring. Red Giant, GenArts, Noise Industries, and others release software plug-ins.

Andreas Kiel, of Spherico, released a free utility to install custom Motion templates in FCP X called Motion Template Tool.

AND! We've updated our FCP X: New Features training...after less than a week!  Recently, we partnered with JFD Communications to develop closed captioning for our training. I've had a lot of requests from around the world to create training for folks that are not native English speakers. So, now all our FCP X: New Features training includes closed captions!

These initial movies are a test to see if there is interest in the market.  Let me know what you think!

By the way, if you are looking for help in creating closed captions, check out JFD Communications. Founded in 2010 by Mandy David, JFD provides closed captioning services for broadcast and web media, in-person interpreters for events, and consulting services. We've had great fun working with them.

This week, I have two new blogs, and three new articles; including my first detailed step-by-step tutorial covering Adobe Audition.

Also, if you are in the UK, I'm presenting six times at the upcoming Broadcast Video Expo, covering the latest version of FCP X, Compressor 4, and Motion 5.  If you are attending the show, stop by and say hello - I'd love the chance to meet you. I'm speaking on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

An often overlooked feature of FCP X is its ability to import iMovie media and projects.

This blog explains how this works. However, also read the comments about a potential way pro's can use this feature to attract more business.

ADOBE AUDITION: TECHNIQUE
Recording an Interview

This is my first detailed article on Adobe Audition. Specifically, I look at how to create a new project and record a two-person audio interview.

If you are looking for a better way to record, edit, and mix your audio, Audition is definitely worth a look; as this article explains.

QUICKTIME
How to Display Closed Captions

Adding closed captions doesn't help if your viewers don't know how to display them.

This short article explains how to view them in QuickTime X or QuickTime 7.

QUICKTIME
How to Display Chapter Markers

Chapter markers aren't just for DVDs anymore. We use them for all our QuickTime webinars and much of our FCP X training to help viewers find what they need quickly.

This short article explains how to view them in QuickTime and how to use them for navigation.
