National Junior Honor Society

The Christ School's chapter of National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) strives to give practical meaning to the Society's standards of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship, the five ideals that are considered the basis for selection. If your middle school student has met the requirements of NJHS, he or she received a letter of eligibility and candidate form on April 18. Candidate forms are due to The Christ School Academic Office on Monday, May 1. Candidate forms will be reviewed by the Faculty Council and new members will be notified on Tuesday, May 16. Dads, relatives and family friends are welcome to escort our young ladies. Tickets are $35 per family, billed to your FACTS account. If you would like to attend, please complete this reservation form by April 21. Volunteers are needed to provide refreshments and to help at the event.
Bible Buddies

TCS 8th grade students teamed with TCS 2nd grade students to serve as Bible Buddies. The students joined together to make and design salvation bracelets to learn the gospel message of Easter. Each bracelet was made with different colored beads, each representing a different aspect of salvation. This symbolism of each bead helped 2nd grade students learn about the gospel and gave the 8th grade students talking points to help share their faith. Black is for separation caused by sin. Red is for the blood Jesus shed on the cross. Blue is for faith. White tells us we are now clean and forgiven. Green reminds us of growth in God's love. Yellow stands for the promise of eternal life. Enjoy more photos on our Facebook page.
Recycling Rainwater

Students in sixth grade science are participating in the Barrels by the Bay project; a project that will place 80 rain barrels in public areas around Orlando by the end of May. TCS students have been working on two barrels which are truly becoming works of art. Each 6th grade class brainstormed and refined a theme. One is a coral reef scene, and the other is a sunset over the ocean. Every student contributed to the production of the barrels. Thanks to TCS families, the Woodrows and Dills, The Christ School rain barrels will be placed at Beefy King and Create Your Nature in Winter Park, respectively.
Solar Ovens

Second grade students have been exploring the different characteristics of the sun. To enhance their understanding of how the sun heats our planet, they created and tested solar ovens. The goal was to determine how to best absorb the heat from the sun using both absorbent and reflective materials to warm a muffin. They used shoe boxes, black construction paper, tape and aluminum foil and worked in groups to plan and construct their ovens. They tested their ovens in the sun and tracked the temperature changes in five minute increments. After testing, students discussed how the size of the boxes and the ways the ovens were constructed caused different temperature changes. This lesson enhanced science, math, and writing skills. Enjoy more photos on our Facebook page.
