Studying the Holocaust

In 8th grade Language Arts, students are completing  a unit on the Holocaust. After visiting the Holocaust Museum in Maitland last Friday, students completed one final assignment: to write a letter to a school board about why the Holocaust is an important lesson that should be studied in school. Here is a quote from one student's letter...

Ancient Greece

TCS 6th grade World History students are learning about Ancient Greece. The students completed a Greek god research project in which they chose an Olympian Greek god to investigate, wrote a report and created a 3D version of their god or goddess. The students explored the genealogy of the god or goddess, what aspect of life they influenced, their powers, the myth about the god or goddess, and if there was a temple constructed in their honor. In this lesson, the students discussed how these are false gods and that we worship the one true God. This unit leads to their study of Humanities in 8th grade.
Filling Buckets

Kindergarten students are learning about nurturing and encouraging others by being bucket fillers. The lesson began as they learned 1 Thessalonians 5:11, "Encourage one another and build each other up." They discovered that we all have an imaginary "bucket" and we can fill our friends' or families' buckets by saying caring words of encouragement or doing kind actions like helping someone if they fall or asking a friend to play if they are alone. The students thought of ways that they can be bucket fillers and drew pictures to illustrate their ideas. This morning, they shared their lesson with all of our students as they led our school-wide chapel.
