Thank You For Your Generosity!

The Christ School Student Ambassadors are delighted to announce that we collected 1,492 cans of food on our "Souper Sunday" food drive! That's a 118% increase over last year's drive. Through this partnership with Christian Service Center for Central Florida, our donations will benefit many families in our area. Thank you to all of our students and families for your generous donations. Together, we are LION Strong!
Coffee with the Head of School - Student Support at TCS

All TCS parents are invited to Coffee with the Head of School on Tuesday, February 14, at 8:15 am in the Rotunda Room in Clayton Life Center. This month, Dr. Powell will discuss Student Support at TCS. Find out about the wonderful offerings available to our students and their families, and hear about how our structure for student support has a positive impact on every classroom. Please contact Theresa Opsahl with any questions.
Donate an Auction Item for a Chance to Win

Everyone can help make the Mane Event a big success for The Christ School. One way to participate is to donate an item to our silent auction! Donation forms and a list of suggestions went home in backpacks earlier this week. You can also submit your form online this year. Please know that no item is too small. For every item you donate, your child(ren)'s name will be placed in the drawing for a chance to win a casual day and pizza lunch for their homeroom class! Already donated an item? Don't worry - you're in the drawing, too! THANK YOU for helping us make this our best event yet! Contact Mane Event Chairs, Jenna Dunaway and Jen Deese, with questions.
Celebration Tree Chapel

This year's Celebration Tree Chapel is Thursday, February 16, at 8:15 am. During this special chapel, students will honor their deceased grandparents as well as those grandparents who are living, yet unable to attend Grandparents Day, by placing a decorated paper ornament on the Celebration Tree. Students can pick up their ornaments from their teacher or at The Christ School's first floor reception desk. Students may include a photograph, drawing, or written representation of their grandparent on the ornament. Please have your child write his/her name on the back of their decorated paper ornament and return it to their teacher.
Grandparents Day is February 17
We are looking forward to welcoming our grandparents and grandfriends on February 17! Remember this is an early dismissal day. Lower School students will be dismissed at 12:20 pm. Middle School students will be dismissed at 12:35 pm.

What to Wear
All students should wear white shirts (long sleeved preferred) with black pants and sneakers for the program. Girls may wear black skirts with black tights or full-length black leggings.

We Need YOU!
We are seeking volunteers to help make Grandparents Day special. We are also seeking refreshment donations. Please contact event chair, April Agnew, with questions.

Best Seats in the House
You can purchase reserved seats for your child(ren)'s grandparents at the Grandparents Day program in the first 10 rows of the Sanctuary for $25. These reserved seats will be assigned on a first come, first served basis and may sell out. All charges will be added to your FACTS account. Please note: Best Seats in the House are an optional purchase. You do not need a ticket or reserved seating to attend the program. Deadline to purchase seats is Friday, February 10

Grandparents TCS T-Shirts
Now our TCS grandparents can be at the height of fashion as they don our new TCS grandparent shirt! Our Lions' Den team is offering a pre-sale opportunity for anyone who would like to order their grandparents' shirts before the big day. Shirts are $15 each. Place your pre-sale order via e-mail to Heidi Arias, TCS Lions' Den Chair. Please be sure to indicate the size and quantity. Shirts will also be available for purchase on Grandparents Day.
Fla-Vor-Ice for Bibles

The members of National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) are raising funds to purchase Bibles to give to the students at Mission Emanuel on the 8th grade trip to the Dominican Republic. On Wednesday, February 15, NJHS members will serve Fla-Vor-Ice pops during lunch. Each pop will be sold for $1. If your child(ren) would like to purchase a Fla-Vor-Ice pop, please have them bring $1 (exact change please) to their teacher from now until February 15. With a fundraising goal of $1000, extra donations are appreciated. Any additional monies raised will be given to the Mission Emanuel school to purchase much needed supplies.
TCS Alumni Earns Eagle Scout Ranking

The Christ School congratulates Nelson Garris, TCS class of 2015, who earned the rank of Eagle Scout on January 30.  Eagle Scout is the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouting program of the Boy Scouts of America. His scouting project was to build a 180-ft. walkway at Canine Companions for Independence (CCI) that connects the dormitory to the training pen. Quarterly, CCI brings in the recipients of the dogs to their campus for a two-week training as they are paired up with their animal. Prior to the walkway, the recipients...
Problem Solving

In Mr. Ross' 7th grade STEM class, the students are learning about the Engineering Design Process: identify the problem, research and brainstorm, build, test, improve, and present a solution. The problem in this project is to provide a means for a robotic Sphero to cross a 16-inch gap between two objects given limited materials. The students researched and brainstormed on the possible designs they could use to solve the problem and are now actualizing their potential solution through the construction of various types of bridges.
Lifelong Lessons

TCS 7th and 8th grade students recently had the opportunity to demonstrate each aspect of The Christ School's "Portrait of a Graduate." Students were "confident and articulate in communication" as they presented speeches in Social Studies. The presentations demonstrated that the students are preparing to "be life-long learners" and to "perform with distinction at the next level." Topics included: comparing the European Union's food labeling laws to the United States' laws, convincing Congress why lobbying should be prohibited and explaining the future of robotics. Perhaps one of the best parts of the experience was that the students "glorified God" and were "others oriented" as they support their classmates while providing valuable critical feedback.
Textured Clay Hearts Collaborative Murals

Each month, the TCS Art Program highlights the collaborative work of our students. This month, our featured exhibit comes from our first grade students. To begin their Textured Clay Hearts project, the students were introduced to the work of American Pop Artist Jim Dine. After a discussion about the colors and textures used in Dine's work, each student was introduced to the process of working with clay using Model Magic Modeling Clay. Then they practiced a variety of...
