A Parents' Guide for Surviving Homework
In the early years of school, children are often excited about having "homework." However, all too soon, it becomes a chore. Our teachers and staff are committed to providing as much support for parents as possible when it comes to homework. We have developed a guide for parents that we hope will provide information about the purpose, benefits and expectations for assigned homework at The Christ School. Your teacher is your most valuable resource when it comes to understanding the specific directions and expectations for homework. This guide serves as a resource tool for parents to help our children experience success with homework.

Praising God in our Prayers
In chapel on Monday morning, Rich Magee, TCS Technology Specialist, helped our students understand how prayer includes not just asking God for help and thanking Him for His provisions but also adoration and confession. During chapel, every student and teacher took a few minutes to write words of praise to God or to draw a picture praising Him on a post-it note. As students and faculty left chapel, they placed their notes onto boards at the front of the Sanctuary. Later that day, Mr. Magee created a word cloud from the many hundreds of words of adoration. A word cloud is created from a list of related words; the frequency of the word in the list dictates the size of that word in the word cloud artwork. Our most frequently used word was "Loving" (55 times). Our adoration word cloud has been shown in chapel each day this week.

The Mane Event Team Needs Your Help!
Our annual evening of fun, fellowship, and fundraising - the Mane Event Green & Gold Masquerade Ball - is coming up on March 11 and we need your help! This wonderful community event is a great success every year thanks to the generosity of our families, friends, and local businesses. The Mane Event Team is currently seeking out auction items for our silent and live auctions. We are looking for restaurant and boutique gift certificates, sporting event tickets, unique children's items, jewelry, and vacation homes. Please consider how you can contribute to this year's Mane Event and contact event chairs, Jenna Dunaway or Jennifer Deese, with any questions.

Fourth and eighth grade students meet once a week as Bible Buddies. Each week, the group participates in a lesson, prays together and learns about each other. Sometimes the eighth grade students teach and sometimes groups work on teacher directed activities. Last week, the students shared three favorite activities from Christmas break, their favorite gift and two acts of service completed during the holidays. The smiles, laughter, fellowship, and prayer time are a blessing to the students and teachers.

7th grade life science students are learning about viruses; tiny non living particles that harm their host. Each virus has a different shape and can only infect a specific host. The students enjoyed making up silly virus names and symptoms in class. Each student invented a new virus of their own and crafted their virus out of styrofoam balls, string and toothpicks. After constructing their viruses, they infected Mr. Coryell's office!

The little lions of TK have been enjoying a unit titled "Watching the Weather." One of their activities was making several types of "snow" in the classroom. Working with combinations of baking soda and hair conditioner, corn starch, peppermint extract and shaving cream, corn starch, glitter and vegetable oil and even toilet paper and ivory soap, they were able to create and compare their own pretend snow. It was a messy, but super fun activity for a not-so-cold January day!
