Prospective Parent Open House

We are excited to introduce new families to The Christ School at our Prospective Parent Open House on Tuesday, November 15 at 9:00 am. Please help us share the news of our event by inviting friends and colleagues who may be interested in joining us! Participants will learn about TCS, tour the school and visit classrooms. Please contact Joanne Fleming to RSVP.
No School This Friday
This Friday, November 4, The Christ School will be closed for a Professional Development Day.  This is a special day set aside each year for our teachers to attend professional conferences with the Florida Council of Independent Schools (FCIS) in addition to programs on our campus.

Weekday School Fun Fair

The Weekday School presents its annual Fun Fair on the campus of First Presbyterian Church this Saturday, November 5, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. The Fun Fair features pony rides, moonwalks, bounce houses, games, face painting, and food. TCS Student Ambassadors will be volunteering at this event, demonstrating their leadership skills and dedication to service. We encourage you to stop by the Fun Fair and support the Weekday School.
Our Next Coffee with the Head of School is November 8
All TCS Parents are invited to Coffee with the Head of School on Tuesday, November 8 at 8:15 am in the Rotunda Room in Clayton Life Center. This is a wonderful opportunity to address topics of interest with Dr. Powell in a casual setting. Please contact Theresa Opsahl with any questions or to suggest topics to be discussed. Hope to see you there!
Middle School Step Up Day
Thursday, November 10, is Middle School Step-Up Day!  Our 5th grade students will enjoy a peek into life in middle school at TCS.  Fifth grade students will attend Middle School Chapel with their 6th-8th grade classmates. After Chapel, the students will rotate through the 6th grade core classes - Language Arts, Social Studies, Math, Science and Bible. These rotations will give them a brief opportunity to experience a middle school classroom.  Students will return to their 5th grade classrooms at the end of 1st period (9:25 am).
Rising Middle School Parent Night
Are you ready for middle school? Parents of TCS students in 4th grade and above are invited to join the Academic Office team and our middle school teachers for The Christ School's Step Up to Middle School Parent Night Thursday, November 10, at 6:30 pm in Reformation Chapel. Parents will receive information and tips on how to prepare your child for success at the next academic level.  Please RSVP your attendance by Tuesday, November 8.
TCS Christmas Program - Best Seats in the House

All TCS families are invited to attend our annual Christmas Program on Thursday, December 1, at 7:00 pm in the FPCO Sanctuary.  Parents have the opportunity to purchase reserved seats near the front of the Sanctuary for $25 each. To purchase your reserved seats, please complete the Best Seats in the House form by Friday, November 18. For more information, contact Susan Clauss.
TCS Sibling Enrollment is Open!

Sibling enrollment is open for the 2017-2018 school year. The Christ School will waive the $150 application fee for our families enrolling an older or younger sibling for the first time. Apply on or before December 16, 2016, to take advantage of this discount. The discount is for TCS siblings applying for Transitional Kindergarten - 8th grade for the first time. The Christ School Online Application is a quick and easy process. We encourage you to apply early as waiting pools are expected in several grades for the upcoming school year. Please contact Joanne Fleming, TCS Director of Admission, if you have any questions.
The Mane Event Committee Needs YOU!

Our annual night of fellowship, food, and fundraising - the Mane Event Green & Gold Gala - will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2017. The Christ School Parent Teacher Fellowship recruits volunteers who work with Development Specialist, Angela V. Harrison, to plan this wonderful event for our families. It's a great way to get involved and meet fellow TCS parents. If you would be interested in serving on our committee, please contact event Chair Jenna Dunaway. Opportunities to help include procuring auction items, planning Mane Event Spirit Week for the students, decorating the venue, and more. We hope you will join us. We need YOU to make this event successful!
The Domino Effect

Last week in Library class, kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade students listened to the story "Because I Stubbed My Toe," a picture book nominee for the 2016-2017 Florida Reading Association award. The book traces a chain of events that begins when the main character stubs his toe, showcasing a domino effect in the book's plot. Ms. Hayes illustrated the story element physically by setting up a long row of dominoes, and pushing them over at the end of story time, much to the delighted cheers and squeals of all the students!
Solving the Cube
Holding the Rubik's Cube, twisting and turning the parts, and learning the sequences necessary to solve the faces helps TCS 5th grade students understand area, perimeter, sequencing, problem solving, perseverance, focus, and critical thinking. "You Can Do the Rubik's Cube" curriculum comes to life in COMPASS class. Did you know that there is a Rubik's Cube vocabulary? Mrs. Gibbs, TCS Compass teacher, says, "I enjoy seeing the looks of determination and focus on the students' faces as well as hearing little cheers when someone who has been struggling with a sequence figures it out!" Are you smarter than a TCS 5th grader? Probably not!
Lions' Sports Update
Our middle school girls' soccer team has games this Saturday, November 5, and Thursday, November 10. Come out and cheer on our TCS Lions!  Registration is open for lower school basketball at www.acys.org. Registration for lower school golf is available at playtga.com/northorlando.
