TCS Families - We Need You!
Believe it or not, the 2017-18 admission season is upon us and families in the greater Orlando area are discerning who will be their educational partner for their children next year. Whether they have a kindergarten student, lower school or middle school child, the best influence on their choice is YOU! Please help us share The Christ School mission with your friends, neighbors, co-workers and fellow church worshipers by making sure to have a TCS magnet on your car and a TCS yard sign in your front (and back) yards, if allowed. Please share our social media event invitations along with this Weekly newsletter with your friends. TCS is gearing up...

One Great Day of Service This Friday
This Friday, we will celebrate a TCS tradition - One Great Day of Service! Our students, teachers, and parents will spend the day serving at organizations throughout Central Florida. Please join us for our closing Chapel on Friday at 2:15 pm in the Sanctuary and hear the many ways our students served our community. Keep an eye out for your child(ren)'s One Great Day of Service shirt(s) coming home in backpacks this week. We are TCS! We are LION Strong!
Thank you to our parents, teachers, staff and trustees for your support of the 2016-17 Annual Fund! Our community came together and showed tremendous generosity during our 10-day Blitz. Parent/Teacher Conference Surveys
Now that we have concluded our Parent/Teacher Conferences, please take time to provide us thoughtful feedback on the process by participating in the Parent/Teacher Conference Survey that was emailed on Monday. Parents with multiple children may take a survey for each child's teacher. Middle school parents may take a survey for each teacher they met with on the scheduled conference days. The link to the survey will remain open until Friday, October 28.

Fall Book Fair a Success!
Our 2016 Fall Book Fair was a ROARING success! The Book Fair made over $11,000 for our school and library media center. This grand total was a 10% increase over the 2015 Book Fair, and is the highest-grossing Book Fair in TCS history! Our teachers also had over $2,000 worth of wishes granted to them, thanks to the generosity of our parents. Thank you to all the parents, teachers, staff and students that made our Fall Book Fair such a success!

Exploring the Election Process
Students in 2nd grade have been learning about the election process. As part of their lesson, they held a mock election. They waited in line with their Voter Registration cards, entered the polling room, voted in a booth, and turned their ballot into the ballot box. The votes were tallied and the results are in: our 2nd grade students elected Donald Trump with 69% of the votes.

Building Bridges
In Mr. Ross's STEM Robotics class, students are working with a partner to build a balsa wood and popsicle stick bridge. The students began the unit by researching different types of truss, arch, and suspension bridges. From there, they learned the engineering process: define a problem, plan solutions, make a model, test the model, reflect/redesign and repeat until finished. When every team has finished, they will spend a day testing each bridge's load-bearing capacity. The goal is to build a bridge that is capable of holding 80 times its weight.

Eggs and Osmosis
Students in Mrs. Kuplen's 7th grade Life Science are studying osmosis. Osmosis is the movement of a liquid through a selectively permeable membrane from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration. To explore this concept further, the students set raw eggs in vinegar to dissolve the shell and create a perfect semi-permeable membrane. The next day they placed the eggs in different liquids and then weighed the eggs to see if they gained weight or lost weight due to osmosis. They tried a variety of liquids, even ketchup!

Colorful Kitty Portraits
Beginning this month, The Christ School Art Program will highlight the collaborative work of our talented students each month. The featured exhibit for October comes from Mrs. Dodgion's Transitional Kindergarten class. For this project, titled Colorful Kitty Portraits, the students looked at photographs of cats. After deciding which shapes would be best to use for each feature, the students began to compose their portraits. They learned that a traditional portrait only includes...

Lower School Service Club
Our next Lower School Service Project will be held on Wednesday, November 2 at 3:30 pm. Students and parents will have the opportunity to thank our veterans by serving Camaraderie Foundation. We will be making cards and thank you notes for veterans, creating beautiful yarn crosses and hearts that will given out at the City of Orlando Veteran's Day Parade. We will also make a large thank you banner that we will send to Camaraderie Foundation from The Christ School. In addition to these great projects, we are asking students to donate a portion of their candy from this weekend's festivities. We will use the candy to make care packs to ship to active military men and women along with cards and other goodies. Please sign up to serve with us or donate items for our next project. Please contact Angela V. Harrison for more information.
