Public and Permanent
Over 100 TCS parents, in addition to TCS students in grades 5 - 8, heard an insightful presentation about online safety on Monday and Tuesday. Richard Guerry of IROC2.org presented "Public and Permanent," which featured many important topics including cyber bullying, poor social media behaviors, inappropriate posting, and how to use social media safely. We are excited to share this handout, which offers many useful tips for parents.

Lower School Service Club Success!
The Lower School Service Club had a very successful kick-off service project yesterday! Nearly 100 students and 30 parents and staff members came together to make 300 "snack packs" for the Christian Service Center (CSC). Scripture cards were designed and notes written to the families who will receive the bags, with our students praying over each one. Thank you to the entire TCS community for coming together and serving by donating snacks, packing bags, and praying. Our next project is scheduled for Wednesday, November 2 at 3:30 pm. Contact Angela V. Harrison for more information.

Heads Up! The Annual Fund 10-day Blitz Starts October 12!
Why do Independent Schools have an Annual Fund? How will my donation be used? Who is asked to participate? We plan to answer all of these questions and more during our 10-day Blitz for the Annual Fund. Instead of bombarding you with fundraising requests all year long and asking students to sell gift wrap and chocolate bars, we consolidate our fundraising plan at The Christ School to simply include our 10-day Annual Fund campaign and the Mane Event Annual Dinner and Auction. Watch for more information next week and contact Development Specialist, Angela V. Harrison, for more information.

Box Tops for Education
The Christ School receives nearly $1,500 each year from the Box Tops for Education program. You can help TCS by cutting out the Box Tops on the products you buy and sending them in with your child or dropping them off at the front desk. The last day to drop off Box Tops is October 12. Contact PTF Lions' Share Chair Angel Houck for more information.

TCS Siblings - Enroll Now!
Sibling enrollment is open for the 2017-2018 school year. The Christ School will waive the $150 application fee for our families enrolling an older or younger sibling for the first time. Apply on or before December 16, 2016, to take advantage of this discount. The discount is for TCS siblings applying for Transitional Kindergarten - 8th grade for the first time. The Christ School Online Application is a quick and easy process. We encourage you to apply early as waiting pools are expected in several grades for the upcoming school year. Please contact Joanne Fleming, TCS Director of Admission, if you have any questions.

TK students travelled to Clemons Produce for a learning and shopping expedition. The students chose pumpkins and gourds to decorate their classroom for fall. They also purchased vegetables and fruits to prepare and have for snack. While choosing the grocery items to buy, the class compared prices and weights. They had fun comparing the different seeds from the various items they purchased. Our little Lions enjoyed shucking the corn on the cob and snapping the green beans, but their favorite part of completing the adventure was eating all of the goodies!

Seventh grade Latin wheel students have just completed their "Latin All Around Us" project. The assignment was to create a poster based on the influence of Latin which they observed around them in books, magazines, TV, movies and more. As a resource, students had the 50 Latin phrases they have learned in their previous Latin wheel classes, plus additional resources provided by their teacher, Mrs. Sorrow. Although they had a specific format to follow, they were encouraged to be creative in presentation. Their posters are on display on the wall outside room 236 in the middle school wing.

Middle School 3D Art elective students were introduced to the concept of Installation Art, or art which is placed or "installed" into an environment. Students viewed the work of artist Mark Jenkins, who creates many pieces of installation art which he often places around his hometown of Washington D.C. One of the mediums, or sculptural materials, favored by Jenkins is packing tape. Jenkins uses this medium to wrap...
