The Value of Games
Why play games in school?  Games help students develop essential skills such as critical thinking, creativity, problem solving, reasoning, and to value the importance of teamwork. To kick off this school year, TCS Compass students began to explore several of the games they would play in class. They learned how the games are set up, the rules of play, how to transition, and how to problem solve. Last week, students shifted between 2 or 3 game stations in the Compass classroom including several strategy and visual...
Exploring the World Through Technology
Students in Miss Cline's kindergarten class enjoyed their first Google Expedition virtual field trip on Friday.  To begin their Expedition, their teacher selected their destination, the Great Barrier Reef, and the entire classroom jumped there automatically using iPhones with cardboard viewers. This lesson augmented the students' science lessons about animals, specifically coral reefs and the ocean's animals. "This technology is a great way to enhance learning as the students were able to have a 360 degree, 3D view of the reef," says Miss Cline.
TCS Yearbook Staff Member Earns Award
In July, members of the TCS Yearbook staff attended Yearbookpalooza, a state-wide yearbook convention held annually in Orlando. At the convention, staff member Peyton Kimble won the 1st place award in the Headline Writing & Design contest. "We are very proud of Peyton for winning the Headline Writing Contest. She was up against high school students, so it is particularly impressive," said Jean Henry, Herff Jones Representative and Yearbookpalooza Director.
