Thermal Energy
Students In 8th grade physical science class are learning about heat and thermal energy. They are discovering that most objects will expand when they are heated because the particles speed up and spread out, such as mercury in a thermometer.  This week, the students made their own thermometers using Erlenmeyer flasks, clear straws and colored water.
Experiential Learning - Under Water!
Sixth grade earth scientists snorkeled Rainbow Springs in Dunnellon this week. Students were able to see and even feel the freshwater springs they have learned about in class. They enjoyed swimming in the crystal clear water of the spring, and saw sand boils, chimney springs and popcorn spring openings. Divers also observed birds, fish, turtles and eel grass in their natural habitat.
