Minnesota Artist Adam Turman Painting Community Themed
Wall Murals at Tall Grass Liquor
Two murals designed for Tall Grass Liquor will be painted by Minnesota artist Adam Turman beginning the week of April 25th. The murals will be representative of the City of Marshall and Southwest Minnesota and located inside the store.
"As a municipal liquor store, it was important as we put the finishing touches on the store that we portray a sense of community to our customers," said Tall Grass Liquor Manager Scott VanMoer. He elaborated that "any store profits are reinvested back into public amenities and services such as our library, parks, trails, and fire emergency responders."
City Administrator Ben Martig noted that the idea for a wall mural in the store was inspired in part by Trader Joe's, a thriving national grocery franchise, who often localizes their stores with community themed murals. He further explained there were local influences as well saying "during the project we admired several local restaurants that had incorporated Marshall photography into their wall space," said City Administrator Martig. He further explained that the Marshall Mural project lead by Marshall Community Services and the Marshall Area Fine Arts Council were influences explaining "the City has received a lot of positive feedback from residents on the downtown murals." This mural is in addition to other recent public art additions in the downtown as well as a mural painting that will be featured in the Red Baron Arena & Expo.
Adam Turman seemed to be the perfect fit for the project. Turman's work is bold, colorful and eye catching. Known for his art prints of iconic city landmarks and biking scenes, his work has been described as "Minnesota-centric" with a portfolio that includes murals that can be found throughout North Minneapolis and was commissioned to create the official Minnesota State Fair poster in 2015.
He has also completed illustrations and murals for various breweries, liquor stores, and related associations. Turman has received special recognition in this area voted Best Beer Illustrator by Growler Magazine, a Minnesota publications covering the thriving craft beer industry.
Tall Grass Liquor will be offering customers beer and wine samples on Friday, April 29th from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. which is also a great time to view and discuss the new murals.
