Update from Meg
March 2014
Greetings!

Everyone is happy and energized after the Break!  Here is a bit of what is happening around school:

Special Author for Read Across America Day
Librarian Carol Kanalley is delighted to announce the visit by a special guest for Read Across America Day on March 6: Steve Sheinkin

Sheinkin is the award-winning author of several fascinating books on American history, including The Notorious Benedict Arnold which won the YALSA Award for Excellence in Nonfiction for Young Adults and the Boston Globe/Horn Book Award for nonfiction. His recent book Bomb: The Race to Build-and Steal-The World's Most Dangerous Weapon was a Newbery Honor Book, National Book Award finalist, and winner of the Sibert Award as well as the YALSA Award for Excellence in Nonfiction for Young Adults. He lives in Saratoga Springs, NY.

Social studies teacher James Lizardo counts Sheinkin as one of his favorites for middle school students.  We are thrilled that he will be visiting Parker.

Other talented author guests: alumni parent Sylvie Kantorovitz, Matt McElligott, James Bruchac, and Rose Kent.  We will also see Grian MacGregor of Ivy Vine Puppets, Kent Busman and, of course, the Cat in the Hat!

If you are new to Parker - here's what happens on this wonderful day:  All the students dress in costume as literary characters and have a day filled with puppeteers, story tellers, authors and illustrators.  At 1:00 there is an assembly with a character parade.  There is a used book sale in the Library in the afternoon.  All books 25 cents.  It is a highlight of the year!

Parker 4 Seasons, Year-round Education

We are pleased to offer a new tuition plan this year that parents have been asking for.  It will allow parents to bundle together the school year tuition, all extended care fees, Parker Play Dates for non-school days, and the entire 10 weeks of enriched summer programming at Planet Parker, including extended care. Payments will be made in equal amounts over twelve months, starting in September.

Parker 4 Seasons pricing will make summer and vacation planning easy.  It eliminates extra billings and spreads all costs over the whole year.  It will be offered to Pre K through third grade families, because these families have been the most likely to enroll their children in Planet Parker for the whole summer.

Details are spelled out in the re-enrollment packet.  If you have questions about how Parker 4 Seasons tuition will work, please give Beth Chapados in the business office a call at 286-3449 ext 105 or email her at bchapados@parkerschool.org
