Highlights 

The ONS Output in the Construction Industry figures for September and Q3 2014 show a sixth consecutive period of annual quarter-on-quarter growth for the construction industry.

 

The Market/CIPS Construction Purchasing Managers Index reached a 13 month low in November 2014, making it the slowest expansion of construction output since October 2013.
 

Housebuilder Berkeley release their interim results to 31st October 2014, showing a pre-tax profit increase of 79.9%.

Regulations & initiatives

The Green Deal Finance Company are to accept a £34m bailout after it signs up just 6,000 homes to the Green Deal out of it's 60,000 target. DECC have published the latest statistics for Green Deal & ECO. Following the recent government review of housing standards, BRE is developing a voluntary sustainability standard for new homes.

 

The BIM Toolkit was presented publicly for the first time at NBS Live by members of the core team and with the BIM Task Group's Dave Philp as chair of the session. The conference is summarised in a recent article by RIBA Insights. The NBS have provided an article called BIM levels explained. This gives a broad overview of the levels 0 to 3.

 

RICS have announced the first International Property Measurement Standard. The CPA have released a report, A Study of the Factors Underpinning Investment in the Construction Products Industry. DECC has published research into the cost and performance of technologies that are not currently eligible for RHI.

As people start to think about Ecobuild (3 - 5 March 2015) here are some thoughts on exhibiting from Mark Mitchell of the USA and Darren Lester of our own SpecifiedBy. Neither can be described as enthusiastic supporters of trade shows, but their comments are worth consideration.
