One U of T professor who is trying to get the city to update its outdated bylaws, including making parking spot rentals legal (although it happens all the time, the current law prohibits it and could result in a fine of $25,000!). You'll find more information below.

As anyone who has been near King and Strachan knows, there's a lot of construction going on. The project has just passed the halfway point, so the end is in sight. Scroll down for photos and more information.

 

The Bank of Montreal recently lowered their five year fixed mortgage rate to 2.99% and although the other banks haven't yet matched it, there's still time. You'll also find information on Toronto's Silent Film Festival.

By the numbers: The Strachan Overpass project

     

When the Strachan overpass is finished, the tracks that used to cross Strachan via a level crossing will be buried out of sight in an 8-metre hole beneath the street.

Spring housing market could trigger mortgage rate wars as Bank of Montreal lowers rate

    

 

 

The spring housing market is expected to bring on a new battle from mortgage lenders as they compete for what has become a shrinking pie in the form of lower real estate sales.

 

Bank of Montreal struck first on Friday with a five-year closed mortgage rate of 2.99% - down from 3.09% and now the lowest published rate among the big banks - with sources indicating the financial institution's mortgage specialists are armed with discretionary power to go as low as 2.89%.

Toronto Silent Film Festival:

Toronto plays host to over three dozen film festivals every year, but here's one that's unique: The Silent Film Festival.

 

The films are accompanied by live musicians who improvise to the action - and if you've never had the experience of seeing a silent movie in the theatre, this is one you should check out!

Market News  

 

Greater Toronto Area (GTA) REALTORS® reported 5,759 sales through the TorontoMLS system in February 2013 - a decline of 15 per cent in comparison to February 2012.  It should be noted that 2012 was a leap year with one extra day in February.  A 28 day year-over-year sales comparison resulted in a lesser decline of 10.5 per cent.
