A Message from the President

Welcome to Quad City Music Guild's 66th season. It's hard to believe it but time has flown by and we are now busy preparing for another great season of Broadway in the Park. Bill Marsoun and his staff are in rehearsal for our spring show "Willy Wonka" and we have completed the casting for our three summer shows, "Les Misérables", "Legally Blonde", and "Oklahoma". We top it off in December with our Holiday show "A 1940's Radio Christmas Carol". There will be more information on that one later on in the year. It certainly promises to be another fun-filled season.

Have you ordered your tickets yet? Now would be a good time to secure your seats for the year by ordering season tickets. You may choose from one of three different season ticket packages: Our Classic covers our three summer shows, the Fabulous includes any four shows, and our best deal is the Ultimate which includes all five productions of the year. You may also purchase gift certificates through our box office. They make great gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, or other special occasions.

Looking for an even better deal on your tickets? Why don't you consider contributing to our Membership/Patron program? There are several different levels of giving that are accompanied by discounts for ticket purchases. Not only do your dollars go to support our wonderful organization, but your gifts are tax deductible. You may download a Membership/Patron form from our website. Go to www.qcmusicguild.com and click on the link to Patron services. We thank you in advance.

As we approach this year's shows, it is important to remember that with every person appearing on stage there are many more needed off stage and behind the scenes to take care of things such as concessions, box office, parking, and on and on. It takes literally hundreds of people every year to keep our theater running so won't you please consider volunteering?   It is fun and rewarding.

Let's see, so far I have asked for ticket orders, volunteers and money. So what's left? The most important part; Thanking each person involved with the organization. As everyone knows, we spent the last six months building our new costume shop and scene workshop. The end result is something that we should all be very proud of and something that will serve us well going forward. But none of this would have happened if it weren't for all of you. I would once again like to acknowledge all of you who volunteered over this time period. To observe so many dedicated people sacrificing their time to pitch in and help has been gratifying to say the least.   It's that dedication that makes Quad City Music Guild so special and you should all be proud of yourselves. Thanks to each and every one of you for making this organization what it is. Now I can't wait to see what 2014 has in store for Quad City Music Guild!

Sincerely,

Craig Woodard

2015 Play Selection Committee

It is that time of year yet again. The Music Guild needs to choose the five musicals that will comprise our 2015 season and would like for you to help. There will be two play selection meetings open to anyone who wishes to share ideas as to which musicals to produce. The first will be held on Thursday, April 10 and the second will be held on Tuesday, April 15. Both meetings will begin at 6:30 P.M. in the Music Guild lobby. Although we ordinarily have held these meetings in January, due to preparing to and actually moving the costume shop to the Guild building and moving the downstairs work room into the new upstairs work room this past January was a little too busy for these meetings. These April meetings will fit into the time between Willy Wonka completing it's run and Les Mis beginning it's rehearsals.

There are no restrictions concerning who can participate. Because we want to make certain that our season includes both new and previously successfully produced shows, because we want to make certain that we choose shows that will appeal to our audiences, because we want to make certain that there are available roles for a wide variety of male and female actors/actresses and young up to old(er) actors/actresses, because we want to make certain that our five shows encompass a wide variety of theatrical/historical periods and styles there are some guidelines that we would like those who recommend shows to follow. If you intend to offer ideas about shows for production be sure to:

- propose only new musicals for which the production rights are available from the companies that own those rights.

- propose only shows previously produced by the Guild that have not

been seen on the Guild stage at any time in at least the last ten years.

- share with us at the meeting how many male roles, female roles, children's roles, and the chorus size that are contained in the shows that you are proposing.

- share with us at the meeting how many settings there are and what types, i.e. interior, exterior, realistic, fantasy, etc.

-identify shows for which you might be willing to serve in a particular capacity on the directing/production staff.

If you do not currently know the above information it can all be found at the web sites of the companies that own the rights to the musicals. Tams-Witmark Music Library, Music Theatre International, Rodgers and Hammerstein, or Samuel French, Inc. own most of the shows that you might want to propose.

If you are unable to attend either the April 10th or the April 15th meetings and have suggestions that meet the criteria above just let Mike Schmidt know and they will be shared with the group. Mike can be contacted at mschmidt@qconline.com or 309-737-5245. We hope that you will help us to create another memorable season!
