A Message from Our President......

As we pause at this time of the year for Thanksgiving, we have so much to be grateful for. In addition to acknowledging our own family, relatives, and friends, we have so much to be thankful for within our Music Guild family. More on that later but first.....

It's been a wonderful year so far with one show remaining; our Christmas show "A Christmas Survival Guide". John Weigandt and staff are busily preparing for what promises to be a great show. A new outdoor light display is up and ready to go thanks to Don Lewis and Pami Triebel, and the lobby is being transformed into a Christmas park scene by Harold Truitt and Susie Adams. It is truly "beginning to look a lot like Christmas". If you haven't purchased your tickets for the Christmas show, please do so. It will be a good way to help celebrate the holidays and there are still plenty of tickets available. On the subject of tickets, why not consider giving Music Guild tickets as Christmas presents? Personalized Gift certificates are available in our box office and they make wonderful gifts.

Our new costume shop is moving right along and is slated for completion the week of Christmas. What a great Christmas present for Music Guild! Plans are being made to move Friday January 10th and Saturday January 11th. We are looking for as many volunteers as possible so if you are available to help and haven't signed up already, contact Cathy Marsoun.

It seems as if there is never any "down" time anymore, and we are busily preparing for 2014. Due to changes made by the Theatrical Company that owns the licensing rights to Willy Wonka, we had to shuffle our season a bit. We were recently notified that Willy Wonka would no longer be available after June, so we moved it to our spring show and have replaced it in December with "A 1940's Radio Christmas Carol". The weekend after our costume shop move, Bill Marsoun and his staff will be holding auditions for Willy Wonka, and then our year will be off and running.....Whew!

Back to Thanksgiving...I would like to acknowledge every one of you that has been involved with Quad City Music Guild throughout this year, whether it has been on stage, behind the scenes, part of our audience, or a part of the community that continues to support us. On behalf of the entire Music Guild organization I am thankful for each and every one of you, for the giving of your time, talents, and resources. We are truly blessed.

The musical Willy Wonka is based on the 1970's, Gene Wilder movie, "Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory." It relates the story of Charlie and four other children who, after finding golden tickets in chocolate bars, take a magical tour of Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. There are songs galore. Willy is a signature role involving constant stage time. The Candy Man sings the beloved "Candy Man." Each of the five kids (Charlie, Augustus, Violet, Mike and Veruca) has individually featured songs. The parents of each child sing along with the children. The show reads and plays as an ensemble production.

There are parts for all ages. We are casting age appropriate actors. We wish to see young people who are in at least fifth grade. For the five main kids (Charlie, Augustus, Violet, Mike and Veruca), we hope to see people with mature voices and stage experience.

Please wear something comfortable because there will be a small dance number. Please be prepared to sing an appropriate song of 16 bars.
