Thank you to Dr. Rex Williams (Dentist) who visited at the end of February and provided dental care - with assistance from Troy Livesay - to the Heartline staff.
The Maternity Center
The Maternity Center continues to grow. Work is planned to add a second story to the current Maternity Center and hire a Haitian nurse or midwife to help with increasing volumes of program participants and births. Praise God!
The Beltis Bakery and Men's Discipleship Program
The men's program has started ministering to a local prison, bringing bread, sharing the gospel and worshiping with the inmates, most age 19 and under. Please pray for this new program as we believe it may expand further in the coming months.
The Women's Education Center
The Sewing classes have been busy designing and creating some pretty amazing things! Here, one participant models her classy new outfit.
Short Term Mission Experiences
Please pray for our next mission team that travels to Haiti from March 21-27. Thank you!
Welcome!
Heartline Foundation and Heartline Ministries welcomes Christie Deegan as our new Mission Experience Coordinator. A Prayer of Thanksgiving
for Missions
|
Father God, thank You for the model of Jesus Christ who showed us how to leav our comfortable and safe surroundings to bring the Good News to all the earth. We know the power of "going." It's a power born not just through building, painting, or serving in tangible ways. It's a power formed by experiencing the work You are already doing in Haiti, a love-work that you continue to do through those who say "yes." Yes to learning. Yes to sharing. Yes to traveling far from comfortable spaces. It's a power that transforms the giver and the receiver, both at the same time. It's Your power. Your love. Your grace. We are humbled to be a small part of it all as we prepare and engage mission travelers and lead them to Your Haiti. May they return changed. May they return more in love with You. And, may they take the lessons, memories, and relationships further than just the week-long experience. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

| Short Term Missions with Purpose |
Sometimes, short term missions get a bad rap. No doubt, there are times when short term mission leaders and travelers miss the boat, so to speak. There are a number of factors that can certainly cast a negative light on what should be a monumental experience. Misguided expectations, hero-mentality, lack of organization, lack of relationships, or poor preparation can often cause short term missions to lack effectiveness - or worse.
However, it would be unbiblical for anyone to say that short term mission work is bad. In fact, Jesus spent anywhere from three weeks to three months in any one area while teaching - not exactly a long time to develop relationships and spread the Good News. Yet, that's all the time He needed to love, serve, and disciple others.
Jesus, after modeling this type of mission work, then commanded us to do the same. "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and
to the end of the earth." (
Acts 1:8 ESV)
"He said to them, 'Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation." (Mark 16:15, NIV)

Heartline Foundation's week-long mission experiences are designed with two main purposes in mind. First, we want to provide travelers with the opportunity to explore and learn. Period. Sometimes, it's not all about what you can do for others, it's about what others can show and teach you. Without experiencing the culture of Haiti, without touring and learning about all the various programs and initiatives happening at Heartline Ministries, and without interacting with so many different people throughout the week, it would be difficult to really understand God's Haiti.
In his book, "Radical: Taking Back Your Faith from the American Dream," David Platt wrote, "Disciple making is not a call for others to come to us to hear the gospel but a command for us to GO to others." (Capitalization ours.)
So, the second purpose is to provide the opportunity for you to serve and - believe it or not - be served. God has a mighty plan in place for each and every individual who steps out in faith to travel to Haiti in pursuit of Jesus' command to GO. "But (perhaps) I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth." (Exodus 9:16, NIV, text in parenthesis ours.)
Perhaps His plan is for you to build a roof, wash a child's feet, feed the hungry, or paint a building. And, perhaps His plan is to allow you to see Him through those already serving and working in Haiti. Our Guest House Managers seek to serve you to His glory. Our program directors seek to witness to you by showing you God's provisions for our participants through bold and faithful obedience. Our travel planning team, including our security guys, translators, and guides seek to serve you so that you may find a little space to grow closer to the God who knows why He created you in the first place. After all, the closer you grow to God, the more like Jesus you will become.

It's for these two purposes that Heartline Foundation strives to reach these objectives for each and every short term mission team:
1. Provide solid preparation
2. Lead and encourage prayer
3. Show a willingness to go to the "ends of the earth"
4. Model and promote stewardship
5. Communicate our perspectives
So, who is discipling whom? You'll only find out if you ... GO.

| One Heartline Mission Traveler's Story |
Most of our long term missionaries, Heartline Ministries' state-side staff and volunteers, and Heartline Foundation consultants - including founders of Heartline Ministries, John and Beth McHoul - started as short term mission participants. Once you visit Haiti, it's difficult to return home and not leave a piece of your heart there. We may even go so far as to say it's downright impossible to return home unchanged.
Here is a recent HF Mission Experience traveler's perspective. We hope you find it encouraging and if you've traveled to Haiti in the past, you will likely find it spot on with how you felt while returning home.
"To go and see what God is doing in Haiti." That simple statement spoken by Frank Verdi the night of our first "Haiti meeting" immediately formed my direction and understanding as to why God allowed me to go to Haiti with Heartline. It was about God, not about what I hoped to get out of the trip, but what God wanted to show me about Him. As I wrestled through my fears in the two to three months that I had to prepare for the trip, God quickly brought me back to that place of release, and I would hear Him whisper, "Not about you; it's about Me."
So, what did I do to prepare? I spent time with God - lots of time praying through my fears and praying over all of the details that I needed to "work out" (I am a wife and a mother to three children). You know, I had "stuff" to take care of. As I prayed, God graciously led me to a place of rest and peace as I felt stressed, doubts, frustrations and anything that had to do with Haiti that seemed rational but all things that God has control over. I released them as I trusted my God who was leading me on this journey.
I felt prepared to see the chaos as we landed in Haiti and rode to Heartline's Guest House. I remember looking at the city from the truck and having conversations with God, asking Him to show me His hope in what seemed to look "hopeless." The Heartline Guest House and Guest House staff will forever hold a special place in my heart. The Spirit is alive in the family that lives there, which is infectious and creates a sense of warmth that touched my heart.
We had the privilege of seeing the Women's Education Center, Men's Discipleship Program, and the Maternity Center. Walking on any property where Heartline Ministries is at work, I continued to see and believe, even more, in God's faithfulness. God's faithfulness because of the years that I know John and Beth McHoul spent listening to God, serving His people, and seeing ministry happen in front of them. As I continued to be introduced to Heartline staff (both Haitian and American oh, and Canadians!) and hear their heart for God, I felt humbled and honored.
God's love poured out on me through people during my time in Haiti, and it has rocked my world. It was a gracious, gentle, kind love that overwhelmed me as I continued to release my plans for the "perfect mission trip". The entire time I was there, God showed up.
It's been a little over two months since my trip to Haiti, and I am overwhelmed by the emotion I feel as I write this. So much of my heart is in Haiti. I could have written so much more about the orphanage, the fisherman and his family, and the school in Cite Soleil which are also memories that I cherish. God is at work in Haiti. In such poverty and what appears to be such darkness, I saw hope. God is reigning in hearts, even in tent villages. Thank you Heartline for opening your doors, but more importantly for your love for God, your obedience to Him and your humble acknowledgement of knowing He is Lord of your lives and your ministry.
