OUR STARFISH STORY

A Starfish named Marjorie

Marjorie is a 32 year old woman who stands not much more than five feet tall. She has a voice not unlike Minnie Mouse, but she has the heart of Aslan the Lion.

On January 12, 2010 at 4:53 PM, Marjorie was on the top floor of a five-floor nursing school when the earthquake that killed 200,000 hit Haiti. The school collapsed, and Marjorie was buried under tons of cement, blocks and rubble.

It was three days before she was rescued with severe damage to her head, foot and to her left arm, which had to be amputated below the elbow.

Marjorie came to the Heartline field hospital shortly after the amputation. She stayed with us for one year as she slowly recovered from her injuries.

Through your giving, we provided a job, gave her a place to stay, built a new home for her family, and for two years supported her until she obtained her diploma.

On September 13th, 2013 Marjorie graduated and received her diploma (photo below).

Your support has helped Marjorie rise up from being a victim to being a victor.

Thank you!

Youth in Action
A Look at the Teen Program and Its Impact on the Youth of Haiti
Heartline Ministries' Youth in Action (YIA) program has been a huge success. It is a prevention program to help teen girls make well educated decisions for the betterment of their lives. The first group was comprised of 37 girls, and they graduated in January.

During the semester-long program, the teens meet each Saturday. They sing, eat together, and sit for a teaching and discussion time.  The topics include reproduction, female health, STDs, HIV, ethics, building healthy relationships, rape, abuse, and most importantly what a relationship with Christ means for their futures.

The girls are empowered with information that will help them make good choices. Information is power!  The group is primarily taught by our nurses, Wini Louisville and Nirva Jonas. They are also taught by Andrama Joseph who is a very successful, single young woman living in Haiti.  Agathe Augistin, who is married and a mother of three small girls, helps educate the girls about forming solid, healthy relationships.

The girls love the program and were disappointed when this while here, they pay close attention to each lesson.

Heartline Ministries has had many pregnant teens in our maternity program.  Most of them turn out to be wonderful moms and love their babies. However as young mothers, they miss out on education and other life opportunities. In addition, we have witnessed many teen moms forced to give their babies to older family members, and they grieve the loss of that child.

We teach our girls the power of waiting to have children of their own. We want them to understand why starting families and raising children are best saved for later. We want these youth to make choices that prevent the kind of heartache teen pregnancy could bring.

"Youth in Action" is the name that the girls chose for themselves. They are taking action over their lives and learning to make the right choices. We love they have taken ownership of their education from the start! When women are educated, a country improves.  Girl power - they are all about it!

A new semester starts in February. Without your support of Heartline Ministries, this program would not be available to these precious girls, so God bless you!

Thank you again for your support!

Choose Sponsorship

Last month, we shared how sponsorships matter. Please take a moment to read about one of the women who is available for sponsorship through Heartline Ministries.

This is Nacius Antoinette. She was born on December 10, 1975. She lives with her husband and six children. She used to sell merchandise on the street; however, it was not profitable. She is currently enrolled in the Women Center's Literacy Class. Her goal is to learn how to read and write so that she can further her education and ultimately find a job to help support her family.

After careful prayer and a review of Heartline's costs, we have set the monthly sponsorship rate at $58/month for the ladies in the Women's Center. This will provide each woman nine months of education (including the teachers, staff, and materials), the use of the facility, one to two meals per day, resources for Bible studies, worship and biblical teaching, a graduation ceremony, and access to a critical community network that will help these women enter into the workforce. We have found that individuals, families, small groups, or co-workers have partnered together in order to successfully fund a man or woman in our programs.

Our prayer is that you or your group will open your heart(s) and consider a year-long commitment to financially support Nacius or one of the other women or men in our various programs.

If you would like to become a sponsor, click here to email Cortney at Heartline Foundation.

Support through Song
Heartline Foundation is Partnering with Christian Artists for Benefit Concert Tours
Heartline Foundation is very excited to be working with two Christian artists to provide benefit concerts stateside. The concerts will be scheduled for various dates and locations throughout the year, and these wonderful artists have agreed to split the proceeds with Heartline!

The name of this concert tour will be the "Losing Sight Tour." If you have spent any time with John McHoul, you know that he believes we must "lose sight to gain vision." What looks impossible in our sight is simply an avenue to finding a greater and deeper meaning of God's vision and will.

The first artist is Michael O'Brien out of Nashville, Tennessee. Michael is probably most known from his seven year tenure as lead singer of the Christian band Newsong. But, he has actually been in the music ministry for some 20 years now and has built a reputation as an incredibly gifted singer/ songwriter with a heart for ministering to the body of Christ. Michael's most recent project "Something About Us" has been described by Michael as a musical love letter to his one and only. It has received critical acclaim from many of his musical peers.

The second artist/band is Westerly Park, a new and upcoming Christian Band out of North Carolina. This group, with its upbeat and high energy music, caters to a younger audience. We are very excited about these partnerships!

If you have ideas for venues for these concerts, we would love to hear from you! We are looking for at least four host churches for the "Losing Sight Tour." Please email Kristin with Heartline Foundation if you have a possible concert site! Thank you!
