Hema Malini and Group presents a live beautiful mythological film performed on stage by more than 30 artists. 

 

The show captures a form of a humble offering to the Divine Mother and is an attempt to capture the religious fervor and devotion that invariably accompanies Mother Worship. 

 

Choreography is based on the Charitas (Stories) from the Devi Mahatmaya and also from the common folklore of Sati, Parvati, and Durga, in that order.

Vishal-Shekhar are a music directing duo of Vishal Dadlani and Shekhar Ravjiani who have worked in Hindi, Telugu and Marathi films. 

 

Their works include Jhankaar Beats, Dus, Bluffmaster, Om Shanti Om, Bachna Ae Haseeno, Dostana, Chintakayala Ravi, Anjaana Anjaani, Ra.One, Student Of The Year, and Chennai Express, Hasee Toh Phasee, Gori Tere Pyaar Mein.The duo rose to prominence when they composed the score for the film Jhankaar Beats which included the song "Tu Aashiqui Hai".

  

They won the Filmfare RD Burman Award for New Music Talent for Jhankaar Beats.

 

In 2005 they composed the scores for three films: Salaam Namaste, Dus and Bluffmaster.Vishal Dadlani is also the vocalist of Mumbai-based electronic band Pentagram. He collaborated with Imogen Heap on the song "Minds Without Fear" for an episode of The Dewarists.Shekhar Ravjiani is a trained classical singer (under Ustad Niaz Ahmed Khan).

 

They were mentors and judges in the Zee TV reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. They also were judges on Indian Idol Junior.

James Quandt on legendary filmmaker, Satyajit Ray
 

This summer, the works of the world renowned Indian filmmaker Satyajit Ray will be showcased at TIFF Cinematheque under the banner "The Sun and the Moon". Joyeeta Ray from MyBindi.com speaks to the Senior Programmer for TIFF Cinematheque and curator of the series, James Quandt. 


Satyajit Ray has left a cinematic heritage that is timeless and universal. In 1978, he was ranked as one of the three all-time best directors by the organizing committee of the Berlin Film Festival. He also received the "Bharat Ratna" (Jewel of India), the "Lègion d'Honneur" in France and the honorary Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences Lifetime Achievement Award in 1992.

 

The Senior Programmer for TIFF Cinematheque and curator of the series, James Quandt has been a film critic for over 20 years. Quandt is a frequent contributor to magazines such as the Artforum, Sight & Sound and Cinema Scope, and in several volumes of film scholarship. In his TIFF Cinematheque role, Quandt has curated hundreds of directorial retrospectives, national surveys and thematic programmes that have contributed to the interest in and revival of forgotten masters and films.
