Dream a Little Dream By Salimah Kassim-Lakha

Well folks, I did it!

On February 25, 2014 I officially launched my dream. That was the day I announced my departure from the job I've held for the past 15 years.

You better believe I exhaled.

When I first began practicing Yoga in 2004, I had no idea where the journey would lead. To be honest, I didn't give it much thought. I came to love Yoga and since then, Yoga has led me to even greater love in the form of people, places and experiences. In those teachings, I learned first and foremost to be of service, to make a contribution to my world, to my community and to my family.

6 Essential Questions
Interview :: 11 Essential Questions for Poet, Novelist & Academic, Priscila Uppal - By Habiba Ahmad

Not all bonds between a parent and a child are as picturesque as the 'Gilmore Girls'. In reality, we have to learn to accept our family ties as they are despite of how great or terrible they may be.

6 Essential Questions, a play by Priscila Uppal is based on her acclaimed memoir, Projection: Encounters with My Runaway Mother. The story explores the rocky mother-daughter reunion, which takes place 20 years after Uppal's mother abandoned her & her family.

MyBindi's Habiba Ahmad caught up with Uppal to discuss her debut play and why life-long relationships are not always what they're cracked up to be.

The play is based on your book "Projection: Encounters with My Runaway Mother". How was it like adapting your story into theatre? Was it challenging?

It was incredibly freeing. I was writing the memoir simultaneously. The memoir sticks to the facts and recounts in excruciating detail all that transpired on the 12 day trip I took to Brazil to meet my runaway mother after 20 years of silence. The play explores the emotional experience in dramatic form, representing the surreal, absurd, comic, and tragic aspects of this unique encounter as a theatrical carnival.
