CARE Canada and I Am Powerful Ottawa will be hosting a gala screening of Girl Rising, a powerful, innovative documentary that tells the extraordinary stories of amazing girls and their strength of spirit.

Lalgudi Jayaraman, who passed away recently, was one of the greatest violinists of South India about whom The Hindu says, "His chiselled rendering elevated Carnatic music to new heights".

His son Krishnan and daughter Vijayalakshmi will be presenting a grand violin concert, following in the footsteps of their illustrious father.
Trichy Sankaran is an Indian percussionist, composer, scholar, and educator. He is acknowledged as one of the foremost virtuosos of the mridangam and also plays the kanjira on occasion.
Tirupanithura Radhakrishnan is a master ghatam player who leads the famous percussion ensemble "Laya Vadhya Thyarangam" which contains Violin, Flute, Mridangam, Ganjira, Ghatam, Morsing, Tabla, Chenda, Edakka and Konnakol.

ROYAL ONTARIO MUSEUM
The Royal Ontario Museum, or ROM, is the quintessential museum. Displays explore all parts of the universe - earth, water and sky, human, animal and amoeba. See exhibits on ancient or contemporary cultures from around the world (including Canada), fossils, world art, textiles and design. The ROM also hosts a number of exhibits from other countries, and in the past has hosted well-known exhibits such as "The Warrior Emperor and China's Terracotta Army" and Ghanian artist El Anatsui's art exhibit "When I last wrote to you about Africa".
