Editorial

Welcome to another edition of the NewBindian newsletter.

It's hard to believe this year is almost coming to an end.  A New Year generally means hopes for new beginnings.  Whether this means a new start in a new country or a new career or entrepreneurial venture, we wish you the best.

Organizations like Culture Link mentor and support newcomers to Canada.  This Thursday, join Culture Link at their annual Holiday Gathering to meet with Club alumni/alumina and listen to their stories and to network with peers and share your success, challenges and best practices. See details below.

The new year is also a time for reunification with family members. Canada has one of the most generous family reunification programs in the world.  The Parent and Grand Parent sponsorship program re-opens to new applications on January 2, 2014. See details below.

NewBindian is a channel of MyBindi.com that is dedicated to the advancement of new immigrants to Canada.

Here is a complete list of upcoming events that would interest newcomers to Canada.

If you'd like to feature your event or organization, or share a valuable resource for newcomers, feel free to contact us at team@mybindi.com. We'd love to hear from you. :)

Happy Holidays and here's to a very happy new year!

Best regards,

Citizenship & Immigration Canada

By cutting immigration backlogs and wait times, the Government is bringing families together more quickly, Canada's Citizenship and Immigration Minister Chris Alexander announced today.

Over the first six months of 2013, Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) admitted 45,000 permanent residents to Canada in the Family Class (FC). This represents an increase of 40 percent over the first six months of 2012. This increase can be attributed almost entirely to a doubling of admissions in the Parent and Grandparent (PGP) category over that time period.

I always appreciate a good recommendation - a book, a recipe, a creative solution or where to get expert advice.

Yoga can seem like a daunting activity because there are so many entry points, so many teachers and so many studios to choose from.

Since the holdiays are a great time to start or recommit to your practice, I am sharing my favourite Yoga videos with you.  These resources rock because the teachers have a powerful love for the teachings, are so clear and direct about what they do and are committed to sharing this love with you.

A word on Obligation....

Today I realized that I am a sucker for obligation. I didn't recognize or 'see' it clearly until now. Meaning, there are a good handful of things I do and people I have in my life that are there purely out of obligation.

Sometimes we do things because its 'the right thing to do' - ie. your friend is in need eventhough its not reciprocated, or you want to voice your opinion but oh, you don't want to be rude/disprespectful, or that person did something huge for you in the past so you must take the punch, so to speak.

  Practical Parenting

In Margaret Johnson's view, kids are woefully uneducated about money. "I once asked a group of school-aged children where money came from. One little girl said, 'From the machine,' and when I asked what happened when the machine ran out, she replied, 'You just go to another machine.'"

Places, much like animals can become endangered, and some of the world's most amazing sights are gradually disappearing.
