Planning for Success, Putting Canada First |
Citizenship and Immigration Minister Chris Alexander announced an immigration plan that will drive economic growth in 2014 and position Canada for success in the years ahead. "Securing economic growth is and will remain our Government's top priority," said Alexander. "Canada is in a global competition for the best and brightest immigrants, and this plan is crafted with attracting the people we need for Canada to succeed." After tabling the Annual Report to Parliament on Immigration, Alexander said Canada plans to welcome 240,000 to 265,000 new permanent residents in 2014, with record admissions forecast in both the Canadian Experience Class and the Provincial Nominee Program. "While Canadians will continue to get the first crack at available jobs, getting the right people in the right places is key to addressing regional labour needs and fueling Canada's long-term prosperity," said Alexander. "We need newcomers willing to put their skills, ideas and energies to work." Economic immigration is slated to increase to 63 per cent in 2014. The remaining 37 per cent will consist of family class immigrants, refugees and others admitted under humanitarian programs.

Secure, 10-year ePassports Hit Major Milestone |
Canada's Citizenship and Immigration Minister Chris Alexander personally delivered the one millionth 10-year ePassport to Mark Walker of Mississauga, Ontario. "The 10-year ePassport is the ultimate symbol of citizenship and has proven to be a huge success with Canadians," said Alexander. "This week at citizenship ceremonies from coast-to-coast many new Canadians are feeling the pride of citizenship and becoming eligible for the Canadian passport." The new 10-year ePassport was launched on July 1. Our government projects we will issue more than 5.2 million passports this fiscal year alone. "Canadians may be surprised at the sheer volume of passports issued in such a short period of time," said Alexander. "Despite an increase in demand following the release of the 10-year passport, we have continued to deliver these important documents on time and within our service standards. This level of service is a testament to the commitment and dedication of our employees who deliver these important documents to Canadians both at home and abroad." |
Canada welcomes largest number of parents and grandparents in nearly 20 years |
Canada's Citizenship and Immigration Minister Chris Alexander pledged aggressive action to reunite more families in 2014. Alexander also announced that the backlog of Parent and Grandparent (PGP) program applications will be almost 50 percent lower by the end of 2013 than it was just two years ago. "Our Government is keeping our promise to overcome the massive backlogs we inherited and reunite families faster," said Alexander. "These numbers represent the highest level of parent and grandparent admissions in nearly two decades and are a clear expression of our commitment to family reunification as a key part of our immigration plan." The Government is on track to surpass its commitment to admit 50,000 parents and grandparents to Canada over two years (2012 and 2013), and Canada intends to welcome an additional 20,000 in 2014. The admission of an additional 20,000 parents and grandparents in 2014 is part of the annual levels plan tabled by Citizenship and Immigration Canada. Under the Action Plan for Faster Family Reunification, the Government cut backlogs and wait times for sponsored parents and grandparents. Prior to that, families regularly had to wait eight years or more to bring their loved ones from overseas.

Improving the Canadian Experience Class |
Citizenship and Immigration Minister Chris Alexander announced changes to improve the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) so that the program continues to attract top quality candidates.
"The Canadian Experience Class has allowed more than 25,000 people to stay in Canada permanently to contribute their skills and talents," said Alexander. "The government is taking concrete action to reduce backlogs and processing times. By making these changes to the Canadian Experience Class, we are moving toward a more effective and efficient immigration system."
In order to manage intake, maintain reasonable processing times and prevent a backlog from developing in the CEC, Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) is introducing an annual cap on the number of new CEC applications. CIC will accept a maximum of 12,000 CEC applications from November 9, 2013, to October 31, 2014.
Despite the annual cap on applications, the department will admit approximately 15,000 individuals under the CEC in 2014.
CIC is also seeing an overrepresentation of certain occupations in the program. In order to bring in as diverse a skill set as possible, the department will introduce limits on the number of applications under certain occupations.

 Top 6 Nutrients for Women!
There are many essential vitamins, mineral and nutrients that we need to live healthy and optimally. Hopefully and ideally, we would obtain these through whole foods and as needed, through supplementation.

In Margaret Johnson's view, kids are woefully uneducated about money. "I once asked a group of school-aged children where money came from. One little girl said, 'From the machine,' and when I asked what happened when the machine ran out, she replied, 'You just go to another machine.'"
