Welcome to another edition of MyBindi's newsletter!
I have two adorable pets. Our dogs Rolo and Hearsay are like our family and this Friday, I actually get to party for a cause that is all about PAWS! If you have pets or love these beautiful people, then come out this Friday Night and show your support at the Party for Paws!
Tonight, I am off to bid farewell to a dear dear friend who is originally from Bombay and, like me, made Toronto her home. But she is leaving now to make a new home and life for herself in San Francisco!
As a kindred soul from Bombay, I could not think of a better gift to give her (among other things) to accompany her on her flight and be a reminder of her roots than a copy of Bombay Wali and other Stories. These twelve stories transport her to Bombay and beyond as she forges a new life in the US.
Until next week!

| What's New on BindiBlogs |
I asked my students, "what do you do most with your mouth?" The top two answers were eating and talking. Kissing was a close runner up. . . Your mouth is the beginning of your relationship with the food you eat and your place in the universe. Let's explore these topics from a yogic perspective. Conscious Eating When you eat you interact with the energy of the Universe. There is a connection between the thoughts we think and the food that we eat. A yogic diet is mostly plant based; easy to digest and easy on the mind. One way to bring consciousness to your meals is to make food time relaxing. Take the time to notice when you are hungry versus thirsty. Savour the experience, eat without distraction. Chew forty times before swallowing and give your digestive system a chance to utilize all the nutrients in your meal. Click HERE to read more. Quinoa Cookies! love nutrition and all things healthy - but one thing I'm not is a baker. I enjoy cooking, not baking. I've been told people are usually one or the other - I am definitely more of a cook. If I'm going to slave in the kitchen, I want a meal out of it, not something to have with tea!
That being said, I recently ventured into the world of baking with this great recipe provided by my friend and colleague, Dr. Joey Shulman. They are easy to make, healthy and delicious! So I thought I'd share it with you ... Click HERE to read more. Travelling Foodie: Desi Eats AbroadThe more I travel the more similarities I see between cultures. During my trip to Europe and Turkey this fall, I came across traditional Arabic desserts, snacks and drinks that looked and tasted very much like their Indian counterparts. Of course, with India's ancient history with the Mughal empire, a crossover was bound to happen. Here is Desi Globetrotter's guide to decoding the names behind these epicurean delights: Zlabias = Jalebis On my last day in Paris, I came across a small Tunisian bakery in the Latin Quarter. These twisted, bright orange, syrupy sweets in the window display caught my eye. Click HERE to read more. A Passage to Bombay and Beyond...Are there any stories left to tell about India's most fascinating city?Yes, most definitely yes, says Veena Gokhale, author of Bombay Wali and other stories, recently released by Canadian publisher Guernica Editions. Bombay, like New York, Paris, London and other world cities, is teeming with tantalizing tales! "Six of the 12 stories in my book reflect the slum-speckled, City of Gold I knew in the 1980s," says Gokhale. "I was a college student and then a journalist in Bombay, and it had not been renamed Mumbai then. I wrote the stories in Toronto nearly 10 years later. I was doing my Masters at York University and the stories started tumbling out. Click HERE to read more.
The soundtrack of director Rohan Sippy's forthcoming romantic-comedy "Nautanki Saala" has a long list of songs and composers have managed to blend elements of romance and comedy very well in the songs. The eight original songs and their reprised, unplugged and remix versions are likely to woo music lovers. However, a couple of tracks would have niche listeners as they won't appeal to the masses. The album starts with romantic number "Mera mann kehne laga". Sung by Tulsi Kumar, the soothing, happy song can make you dream. The lyrics are dipped in romance and beautifully describe a lover's feelings.
"Dum hai, Boss!" - the perky young Miss Congeniality in David Dhawan's "Chashme Baddoor", a far cry from the shastriya sangeet trainee tutti fruti-eating Deepti Naval in Sai Paranjpye's film, exclaims whenever she is impressed by her loverboy's dialogue-baazi.
Exclamation marks are the only punctuations in this seamless comedy of courtship played at an impossibly high octave, without getting shrill.

Motherhood full of contradiction: Nandita DasTerming motherhood as a "contradiction" of life, actor-director Nandita Das said the happy stereotypical perception about motherhood is very different in reality. Das was speaking at a book launch of an anthology "Of Mother and Other" at the Indian International Centre here. "When I was pregnant, no one told me how many difficulties one actually has to face. Everybody is happy and they congratulate you, but nobody shares the issues of motherhood," the actor said. Click HERE to read more.
