Wellness Workshop Tool Kit for South Asian Seniors
CHATS Generic

A tool kit that offers practical step-by-step information on how to organize and facilitate health and wellness workshops for South Asian seniors has caught the eye of a provincial seniors' expert.

"(I) must say that I was quite impressed with it," says Dr. Samir Sinha, Director of Geriatrics for Mount Sinai and the University Health Network Hospitals, and Provincial Lead for Ontario's Seniors Care Strategy. "This sort of material is integral to making older adults - especially from diverse communities - more comfortable with navigating their own health and wellness issues, and the system as well."

Dr. Sinha reviewed the toolkit, called "Taking Care of Me! A Tool Kit for Organizing and Facilitating Health & Wellness Workshops for South Asian Seniors," which was created by CHATS - Community & Home Assistance to Seniors, in collaboration with the Social Services Network.

CHATS is a not-for-profit charitable organization that supports the health and well-being of seniors and caregivers at home and in the community (serving York Region and South Simcoe).  Social Services Network is a not-for-profit charitable organization that delivers culturally and linguistically appropriate programs and services to the South Asian community in York Region.

Food Cravings... It's not your fault!

Hello readers! This week's blog is short and sweet - I wanted to share with you an article I recently read that really affected me. I mean, I know the food industry spends millions on the science behind flavour and making us want more of the processed goodies they manufacture...but to the extent it is actually happening - I had no idea. Please read this article - it will really make you think about processed foods and why we love them so. It's not our fault. It's their business to make us addicts.

Practical Parenting

Terming motherhood as a "contradiction" of life, actor-director Nandita Das said the happy stereotypical perception about motherhood is very different in reality. Das was speaking at a book launch of an anthology "Of Mother and Other" at the Indian International Centre here.

"When I was pregnant, no one told me how many difficulties one actually has to face. Everybody is happy and they congratulate you, but nobody shares the issues of motherhood," the actor said.

Savia Music

Neeraj Pandey returns to direction after four years and his latest film "Special Chabbis" looks as invigorating as his first film "A Wednesday". The soundtrack too seems good with five original tracks. Four songs have been penned by Irshad Kamil and composed by M.M. Kreem, while Himesh Reshammiya has chipped in with a composition with lyrics by Shabbir Ahmed.
First up is "Tujh sang lagee". A soulful rendition by KK, the song has a qawwali touch and Sufi energy flowing incessantly. The sound of the Sarangi and other Indian instruments also play a vital role by keeping you in sync with the song.
