Motherhood full of contradiction: Nandita Das

Terming motherhood as a "contradiction" of life, actor-director Nandita Das said the happy stereotypical perception about motherhood is very different in reality.

Das was speaking at a book launch of an anthology "Of Mother and Other" at the Indian International Centre here.

"When I was pregnant, no one told me how many difficulties one actually has to face. Everybody is happy and they congratulate you, but nobody shares the issues of motherhood," the actor said.

"The whole journey of motherhood is full of contradictions," she added.

Stating that having a child is a matter of personal choice, the award-winning actress said that being a mother has completely changed her life.

Game On
Cinema and sports, the two abiding loves of Indians all over, are intersecting as never before. If sports stars are turning actors and producers and providing creative fodder for Bollywood filmmakers, tinsel town is also doing its bit by pumping in money and providing glitz to various sports leagues.

It's a unique, symbiotic relationship and it's getting stronger.

Bollywood films on London Olympics bronze medalist M.C. Mary Kom and 'Flying Sikh' Milkha Singh are already in the pipeline, while actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty are doing their bit in promoting various sports.

My Body My Temple Blog
Part 1
Take a deep breath.  Close your eyes.  Concentrate this next breath through your left nostril.  Use your mind to control your breath.  Repeat eleven times. In the thirty seconds it takes to practice this technique, your body, mind and breath shifts. It is a fact.

Part 2
See, sense, feel or imagine the place in your life, in your body, in your mind
where you hold the most tension.  Hold that knowingness. Come to an
awareness of where you are gripping, holding, or judging. Be with it.

Part 3
Offer that experience over to your highest consciousness. Turn it over to be forgiven, loved and healed.  It is a choice rather than a request.  It is a here and now experience of consciousness. It's you.

Wellness Works Blog

Hello readers! This week's blog is short and sweet - I wanted to share with you an article I recently read that really affected me. I mean, I know the food industry spends millions on the science behind flavour and making us want more of the processed goodies they manufacture...but to the extent it is actually happening - I had no idea. Please read this article - it will really make you think about processed foods and why we love them so. Its not our fault. Its their business to make us addicts.

Listen Up Blog

Neeraj Pandey returns to direction after four years and his latest film "Special Chabbis" looks as invigorating as his first film "A Wednesday". The soundtrack too seems good with five original tracks. Four songs have been penned by Irshad Kamil and composed by M.M. Kreem, while Himesh Reshammiya has chipped in with a composition with lyrics by Shabbir Ahmed.

First up is "Tujh sang lagee". A soulful rendition by KK, the song has a qawwali touch and Sufi energy flowing incessantly. The sound of the Sarangi and other Indian instruments also play a vital role by keeping you in sync with the song.

It is followed by an out and out Punjabi track "Gore mukhde pe zulfaan d chaavan". It is composed by Reshammiya and crooned by the trio of Aman Trikha, Shreya Ghoshal and Shabab Sabri. There are some good beats here and there, but overall it falls flat.

Next song "Kaun Mera" is a beautiful romantic ballad where Chaitra Ambadipudi's enchanting voice mesmerises the listener. The song is pure bliss. The noteworthy musical arrangements play a complementary role and allow the voice to do all the talking.

Mira Nair's much-awaited global thriller, 'The Reluctant Fundamentalist' starring Riz Ahmed, Kate Hudson, Kiefer Sutherland, Liev Schreiber, Om Puri, and Shabana Azmireleases in theaters on April 26. The brand new trailer and poster have premiered for this eagerly anticipated motion picture event which is based on the best-selling novel by Mohsin Hamid. 'The Reluctant Fundamentalist' was the opening night selection at the prestigious Venice Film Festival and will now hit theaters nationwide this spring.

The story begins in 2011 in Lahore. At an outdoor café a Pakistaniman named Changez (Riz Ahmed) tells Bobby (Liev Schreiber), an American journalist, about his experiences in the United States.

Roll back ten years, and we find a younger Changez fresh from Princeton, seeking fortune and glory on Wall Street. The American Dream seems well within his grasp, complete with a smart and gorgeous artist girlfriend, Erica (Kate Hudson). But when the Twin Towers are attacked, a cultural divide slowly begins to crack open between Changez and Erica. Changez's dream soon begins to slip into nightmare: profiled, wrongfully arrested, strip-searched and interrogated, he is transformed from a well-educated, upwardly mobile businessman to a scapegoat and perceived enemy.
