Poutine Masala :: Can you handle the spice? |
Present day Montreal. A small-town Quebecois meets a home-grown girl from India. Sparks fly. But there is that cultural complication and some more. Boy believes in the present, Girl in the future.
But somehow love happens until ... comes along a blast from the past that complicates things a bit more.
A comedy dance-theatre, Poutine Masala is a delightful story that will make you laugh and quite emotional. It's a story of us, living in our multi-cultural city and loving it. Trilingual (French, English and a dash of Hindi), it has a brilliant cast of Quebecois and Indian actors, doing things in a true Bollywood style comedy.
When: On now until 13 January 2013 Where: Wildside Festival, Centaur Theatre Company

What's New on BindiBlogs
|
I wanted to write my last blog post for 2012 and share my personal commitment for 2013. No, not a resolution but a commitment. Although I do 'resolve' to do this, I think commitment is a better way to describe it. For me, I don't have the usual 'resolutions' or goals. Its simpler yet more difficult than that.

A few years ago I had the privilege of seeing the Dalai Lama at the Rogers' centre here in Toronto. It was a huge venue, and thousands of people were seated in the stadium waiting for his talk. The sound of gongs marked his entrance. As he walked in, I had a distinct physical sensation of his presence, I actually sat back in my seat from the impact. That sensation has stayed with me ever since.

Music Director Vishal Bhardwaj goes desi again with the soundtrack for the film "Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola" which set in Haryana. The music composed by him, completely in sync with the film's setting, seems to be promising. His old partner Gulzar has penned nine numbers for the soundtrack, coupled with two reprise versions.
Gangs of Wasseypur (Part 1 and 2) - Five hours of blood, gore and fun. Anurag Kashyap's epic revenge saga was, more than anything, a lot of fun to watch. Packed with smart dialogue, a script that didn't let up and a director who was clearly having a blast while shooting the whole thing, "Gangs of Wasseypur" was an experiment that went right.
The sharp scent of red spices and curry powder. Heat emanating from the fresh pieces of naan bread. The sound of silverware clattering against each other. And the sight of native, desi food. I suddenly felt that a piece of me that had been empty for months was alive again.
