Conservation

Thank you! Your Voice Was Heard:
Community Preservation Fund Extension Passes!
 cpf
A message of thanks from Trust President John v.H. Halsey:

"All of us at the Trust are so proud of the people of the East End for voting to support the extension of the Community Preservation Fund -- you reflect a conservation ethic second to none!  It is with your support that the Towns have the resources to conserve our community character. As a result of this vote, there will now be additional funding to invest in projects that further improve our water quality."

By voting YES this November you ensured that our East End Towns have a funding stream for local conservation through 2050, as well as enabled each of the Towns -- East Hampton, Riverhead, Shelter Island, Southampton, and Southold -- the opportunity to invest up to 20% of their CPF funds toward water quality projects . . . projects approved by each Town based on its own water quality plan.

Help us spread the word: We know we say this a lot, but some people still mistakenly believe that all of the CPF funds come to the Trust.

The Peconic Land Trust does not collect or distribute the CPF. Your help in dispelling this misinformation is so very important - please help us spread the word! We depend upon private contributions from you, your family, friends and neighbors, to protect and care for the lands around us.

The CPF is managed by our five East End Towns to advance the conservation and preservation of natural resources in each particular town. While we do work closely with all levels of government, local communities and partner organizations to conserve Long Island's working farms and natural lands, the work we do to plan, acquire and steward our land and water resources would not be possible without direct contributions from people like you.

Thanks again for your help with this!  If you have questions, please give us a call at 631.283.3195 or email to Julie Zaykowski

Working Farms and Natural Lands
You Cherish!

Imagine what Long Island, especially the East End, would look like without the work of the Trust. There would be fewer farms, less local food and open space, more development, and even more traffic. Not a pretty sight!

Now imagine the farmland, coastlines, woodlands and meadows you cherish. So much that we know and love is still in the crosshairs of development. Because of people like you, we have the knowledge, experience, and track record to conserve more, but we need your help to accomplish it.

Your support is critical to our work. Please join us in conserving the:
  • working farms that produce so much including local, fresh vegetables and fruit
  • woodlands and wetlands that cleanse our water resources
  • shorelines and landscapes that inspire and restore us
  • historic landscapes, barns, and buildings that preserve our heritage
Thank you for all you do to protect
what we know and love on Long Island!

. . . and please consider showing your support on
