Music Returns to Bridge Gardens on Friday, August 21!
Joe Hampton and the Kingpins will fill the Gardens with their lively, dance-able music. Join us for an evening of music and fun!
Fridays at Six are special evenings that happen twice each summer, bringing live music and a picnic atmosphere to the Inner Garden. Starting at 6 pm until dusk, bring your picnic, chairs or blankets, and your friends for a relaxing evening as the sun sets. Free for Garden Members, and just $15/person for everyone else -- an enjoyable kick off to the weekend!
Thank You to our Volunteer Crew!
The gardens have never looked better than they do right now, thanks in part to the team of volunteers who help me and my assistant Ed with our daily gardening activities. From deadheading, weeding, and watering, to spreading mulch and compost, and greeting our visitors, our volunteers are the best!
Thanks go out to:
Carol Ahlers, Susan Edwards, Julian Garcia, Joe Lane,
Barbara Waldman, and Mary Welker, along with
our corporate volunteers, including
RB Irrigation, Goldman Sachs, and Marders.
Thank You to Robert Boyle of RB Irrigation for donating and installing drip irrigation for the newly planted landscaping along Mitchell Lane!
The irrigation is critical to keeping the new plantings, which were donated by Mahoney Farm and installed by Summerhill Landscapes earlier this summer, thriving!

Demonstration Lawns: Last fall, with assistance from Paul Wagner, Sean O'Neill and Tamson Yeh, we installed three demonstration areas for turf -- Full Sun, Part Sun, Shade -- which each featured four seed types and two types of fertilizer. If you're thinking about overseeding or refurbishing your lawn this fall, stop in to see which seed and fertilizers worked the best in conditions from full shade to full sun.
 Check Out News 12 Long Island News 12 Long Island's Mary Mucci came out recently for a visit with Paul Wagner for some lawn advice. See her interview with Paul and her visit to the garden on Long Island Naturally. Watch now online! What's Blooming in August We have many exciting flowering shrubs and plants coming into bloom throughout the gardens -- from the vegetable garden and herb beds to the shrubs and perennial beds. One of the first plantings to greet you as you enter the gardens are the spectacular hydrangeas that line the driveway. These breath-taking shrubs are in bloom for most of the summer, greeting visitors with their lush blossoms.
As you come along the path into the Inner Garden, bear's breech - Acanthus spinosus - is in full bloom along the right side of the walkway. In the mixed bo rder, look for annuals like Salvia 'Mulberry Wine' and ' Dondo' ageratum. The culinary bed in the herb garden is alive with pollinators who are visiting everything from delicious varieties of basil and sage to oregano, parsley, bay leaf and more -- as well as calendula, California poppy, St. John's wort, and sunflowers. The wisteria arbor outside the Garden House provides, as always, wonderful shade for afternoon lunch -- bring your picnic basket and take some time with us! Also, stop inside the Garden House to pick up literature and details
about upcoming programs, our horticultural partners, and the Lawn Demonstration areas.
 Call for Volunteers There are lots of volunteer opportunities at the gardens -- from weeding and watering, to helping collect entrance fees at the gate. Our schedule is flexible, so let me or Kathy Kennedy know what works for you! Supporting the Gardens Additional contributions are needed from those who love Bridge Gardens to help us cover the balance of the costs involved in changes to the plantings along the Mitchell Road entrance. For more information on how you can help, please contact Pam Greene at our Southampton office at 631.283.3195 or PGreene@PeconicLandTrust.org. I hope that you will visit us often this summer -- there's so much to see and experience. And this is for certain, the gardens are always changing! Wishing you a bountiful season,
~~~~~~~~ Bridge Gardens Notecards   Last year, photographer Jeff Heatley spent time each month documenting the changing seasons at Bridge Gardens. The entire portfolio of images from Jeff is on his website, Art & Architecture Quarterly, starting with April 2014 through January 2015.
We've taken 8 of Jeff's images from the season and created a gorgeous gift set of note cards. What a wonderful way to share Bridge Gardens with your friends and family!   The notecards, $12 for a set of 8 cards, are available on our website or call 631.283.3195. |
