DanilevskyTrust in Contract to Purchase 33 acres of Farmland from the Estate of Charlotte Danilevsky in partnership with the Town of Southampton.
Southampton Town has offered to purchase the development rights, including additional restrictions, which will ensure that the farmland will remain in agricultural production.
A public hearing on the purchase of development rights is scheduled for May 27.
Supporters are urged to join us at the hearing in support of the acquisition.

John v.H. Halsey, President of the Peconic Land Trust announced that the estate of Charlotte Danilevsky has entered into contract with the Trust for the sale of 33 acres of prime agricultural land in the hamlet of Water Mill. The Town of Southampton will be an important partner in the acquisition, purchasing the development rights (PDR) on the farmland -- including new additional restrictions that will ensure the land is accessible to food production farmers at its true agricultural value in the future. A public hearing on the Town's PDR application is scheduled for May 27, 2014.

"We are so pleased that the estate of Charlotte Danilevsky is enabling a conservation outcome for
19.2 acres on Head of Pond Road.
this farmland -- productive, prime soils that define the heritage of Long Island's East End, as well as the character of the Town of Southampton. We also applaud Town Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst, Councilwomen Bridget Fleming and Christine Scalera and Councilmen Brad Bender and Stan Glinka for their willingness to acquire additional rights on this farmland that will assure that this land will be farmed into the future," said John v.H. Halsey.

Seventeen1772 Foundation Awards Peconic Land Trust
$35,000 Grant for Farmland Protection

In mid-May, the Trust was notified that it will receive a grant of $35,000 from the 1772 Foundation,  administered by the Land Trust Alliance. The grant will cover some of the expenses associated with the Trust's Like-Kind Exchange with Al and Mary Krupski announced last month.

A portion of the grant funds will replenish the Trust's revolving fund, the Peter J. Sharp Fund for the Environment, which was used in the transaction.

This is the second grant the Trust has received from the 1772 Foundation. The first was in 2013 for $50,000 toward the acquisition of the Dickerson farmland, which is now part of the Trust's Agricultural Center at Charnews Farms along with the Krupski farmland. The Ag Center is home to the Trust's Farms for the Future Initiative on the North Fork, which now includes 98 acres of land. We thank the 1772 Foundation and the Land Trust Alliance for their support of the Trust's Farms for the Future Initiative.
